User Interface & Ease of Use

  • Disk Drill 5

As you can see in the screenshots, Disk Drill 5 has a clean UI design. It makes things easier when you want to manage multiple drives, especially logical volumes and containers. The sidebar makes it easy to navigate the tool and its features, especially the additional utilities. Even if you are new to data recovery, you won’t have trouble getting used to it. But, we believe advanced users will appreciate the design more.

  • EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard

Compared to Disk Drill, EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard has a more intuitive interface. It offers an overview of all connected disks, and you can use the sidebar to access additional features. However, once you start the data recovery process, you can’t find many differences between Disk Drill and EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard in terms of UI.

In summary, both options offer an intuitive UI that you can master. However, if you want to manage multiple drives, you may prefer Disk Drill 5.

Features & Performance

Let’s look at how Disk Drill 5 and EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard perform when it comes to core features. Of course, our focus is on data recovery, but we will also check additional features. We tested both apps on a 256GB SSD with 500GB that was using APFS format. This drive had around 160GB of free space.

  • Scanning Modes (Quick Scan vs. Deep Scan)

Both Disk Drill and EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard offer two scanning options: Quick Scan and Deep Scan. The Quick Scan was fast enough on both tools, but Disk Drill has a slight upper hand. We should also mention that the exact numbers will depend on the disk file system, storage capacity, and connection speed.

However, we saw a stark difference when it comes to deep scans. To stay unbiased in the endeavor, we also tested some other testimonials. Nevertheless, we found that EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard took more than two hours to complete two hours. On the other hand, Disk Drill completed the same in less than 20 minutes.

Therefore, we recommend Disk Drill 5 if you are looking for a deep-level scan to reveal as many deleted or lost files as possible.

  • Supported File Types

According to official sources, Disk Drill 5 supports 400+ file formats, whereas EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard offers 1000+. Of course, we cannot test these claims to the fullest. However, we tried to recover various file formats that you may come across in your personal and professional lives.

Both tools handled all of them very well, including file formats from lesser-known apps. So, you can choose either if compatibility with file types is a concern.

  • Device Support

Device support is where Disk Drill 5 takes a step forward in this race.

With EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, you can recover data from your Mac as well as connected storage drives like USB disks and memory cards. However, it doesn’t do well with your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone. On the other hand, Disk Drill 5 offers native support for iOS/iPadOS and Android.

So, with Disk Drill 5 on your Mac, you don’t need a dedicated tool for your smartphones. You don’t get this option from EaseUS.

  • File Preview Before Recovery

Both tools let you preview files before recovering them. This way, you don’t end up wasting resources and time recovering things you don’t want. The Preview option on EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is intuitive and graphical, though. On the other hand, Disk Drill simply shows a quick preview of the file on the right pane.

  • Recovery Speed

Disk Drill and EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard offer decent speeds while recovering data. However, we don’t want to provide any numbers since they are highly subjective. You need to consider many variables when testing something of this sort.

easeus recover

Nevertheless, we can assure you that both are faster than you expect. It helps that Disk Drill 5 gives you a rough estimate of data recovery chances. With options that showed High chances of recovery, the recovery speeds were pretty high.

However, stability was another concern we noticed. Disk Drill was highly capable of handling large-capacity drives during testing. However, we came across more issues while dealing with the EaseUS product. But it is not a dealbreaker by any means.

  • Recovery Performance

Disk Drill 5 showed good performance, achieving 99% recovery in our testing. We could use the tool to recover a variety of content, including photos, videos, and some Photoshop documents. The estimates also helped me save time by not spending time on less successful recovery attempts.

EaseUS demonstrated a slightly higher recovery rate in our experience (approximately 99.7%), though some other reviews state otherwise. For instance, Trustpilot reviews for EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard were nothing short of impressive. It seems to perform well when it comes to recovering various data types. Some of these reviews mention that EaseUS helped users recover 100% of their lost files, which sounds great.

However, we noticed that the free version of EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard compromises in performance as well as stability.

  • Additional Features

Disk Drill offers a unique set of additional features and they are powerful enough to replace dedicated tools for these purposes. For instance, Byte-to-byte Backup lets you back up your entire disk for future needs. In the same way, you can use Clean Up to free up space and Duplicate Finder to remove copies from the device. You can use Disk Drill to create a bootable installer for macOS. We also like to have S.M.A.R.T. Monitoring.

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard offers another set of additional features. For instance, you can use it to recover data from non-bootable Macs. Similarly, you can repair corrupted drives/files with the same tool. We also tried the Video Repair tool, which works incredibly well. There is also a Disk Backup function that works well for the most part.

In short, Disk Drill 5 expands its versatility through these additional tools. On the other hand, EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard complements some of the existing functions.

Pricing & Plans

Here is how much you have to spend on these tools.

  • Free vs. Paid Versions

Disk Drill and EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard offer free plans with limited features and resources. You can use Disk Drill Free to recover up to 500MB of data, but not all formats. EaseUS lets you recover up to 2GB, which is great. However, the free version of Disk Drill still offers additional tools, but they barely work with EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard.

  • Pricing

You can get Disk Drill 5 through a one-time purchase of $89, and this single-version license may offer some discounts when you upgrade. Disk Drill does not have a subscription plan, but it is available via Setapp. In short, the pricing for Disk Drill is pretty simple.

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is also available through a one-time purchase, which costs $119.95. However, there is a subscription plan that costs $89.95 per month, and it allows you to get future upgrades. There are business licenses, but EaseUS doesn’t offer a family license.

Therefore, from a price-to-value perspective, Disk Drill seems to be the better choice.

We recommend Disk Drill 5 if you are looking for versatility and stability. Though it packs some additional tools, you end up paying less for a one-time purchase—less if you get Setapp. We also love its support for Android and iOS/iPadOS devices. Altogether, it is a complete data recovery tool that you can count. Yet, it may seem a little complex for beginners.

So, if you don’t have budget constraints, you can go for EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard. It offers additional features for data repair and dealing with unbootable Macs. More so, you get a simpler and intuitive User Interface, which appeals to some.
