Macs are known for their smooth performance, seamless interface, and rock-solid reliability.

But here’s the truth: even Macs slow down, crash, and run out of space—especially when junk files, app leftovers, and system clutter pile up.

Think of your Mac like a high-performance car. It needs regular tune-ups to stay fast and efficient.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know to clean up your Mac—along with the best third-party Mac cleaner apps to help reclaim storage, boost speed, and keep your system running like new.

TL;DR: 2025 best Mac cleaner apps at a glance

What Redditors say about Mac cleaner apps

Before diving into our picks, we checked in on what real users in Reddit’s r/mac and r/apple communities are saying. Here’s what the crowd thinks:

 • Less is more: Lightweight tools like AppCleaner and OnyX are community favorites.
 • Skepticism toward paid tools: Many users are wary of “bloated” or overly aggressive cleaners.
 • Built-in tools praised: Some say Apple’s own storage management features are all you need.
 • DaisyDisk gets visual love: Redditors appreciate its simple drag-n-delete interface to free up space fast.

macOS tools vs. third-party cleaners

macOS has some solid cleanup tools built-in:

SystemStorage

These are solid for basic cleanup, but they lack depth and automation.

With third-party apps, you can:

 • Clean hidden system junk, old backups, email attachments.
 • Uninstall apps completely—leftovers and all.
 • Automate routine maintenance and scheduling.
 • Detect performance issues early.
 • Save you from manual file-hunting.
 • Have safer cleanup options—avoiding accidental system damage.
 • Often more cost-effective than upgrading to iCloud or buying an external drive.

Verdict? If you’re comfortable with DIY cleanup, macOS tools are fine. But for deeper cleaning, automation, and time-saving, the following third-party Mac cleaner apps are often worth it.

Evaluating and testing the Mac cleaner apps

In the past two weeks, we reviewed over 20 Mac cleaning apps for personal use. It’s a competitive market, but here are some critical questions when we consider a Mac cleaning app for this coverage, so keep these in mind when you choose one.

 • Is the app intuitive and easy to use?
 • Is the app secure and safe to use?
 • Does it offer a free trial? And, not come bundled with other apps installation?
 • What cleaning features are included?
 • Is it priced reasonably with respect to the powerful features/functionalities we get?
 • Is it compatible with the latest version of macOS?

We attempted to install the Mac cleaner apps on a test system with a representative amount of clutter (downloaded files, application leftovers, etc.), run a baseline benchmark to measure disk space usage and system performance metrics, and left them for a while so we could review the post-cleaning results, including available disk space and potential performance improvements. (Read the full rundown of how we select tools to feature on TheSweetBits blog.)

Based on that experience, here are the top apps we think work best for Mac users. Additionally, we’ve outlined the specific purposes for which each app shines.

DaisyDisk: Best for quick cleanup

DaisyDisk is our first recommendation if you need an app to clean your Mac quickly. It works great when you want to free up space on your Mac. But it works better when you want to know why you have insufficient storage on your Mac. Compared to the Storage Settings utility, DaisyDisk presents things more clearly.

DaisyDisk

Things we love

DaisyDisk is a beautiful yet powerful disk space analyzer that scans the drives on your Mac and gives you a visual overview of what’s eating up space on your Mac. It displays files in a pinwheel-shaped disk map, letting you quickly locate and clean up large files.

You can also use the built-in QuickLook preview to see what you might want to get rid of (you can also reveal the files/folders in Finder to take a closer look). But the good part is that DaisyDisk will warn you if you are about to delete something important to the system.

DaisyDisk also understands that you may have to remove files/folders from different parts of the file system. So, there is a collection drawer to which you can add contents. Then, once you review everything, you can delete everything in a single click.

Compared to the other space analyzer tools we have tested, DaisyDisk is pretty intelligent. For example, on top of showing storage space consumption, the cleaning app also points out free and purgeable space. It means DaisyDisk can help you revive space that other cleaning apps do not even bother about.

In the long run, using DaisyDisk to clean up storage space on your Mac is a better option than most forms of storage space upgrade.

What could be better

Even though DaisyDisk does an incredible job telling us how to clean up storage space on Mac, it doesn’t go beyond that point. For instance, you do not get actionable information about issues like junk files or residual stuff from the system or third-party applications.

It would also be great if DaisyDisk were proactive about interactions with system folders. At this point, there is a higher chance of interfering with system files. But, again, it is not desired when relying on a dedicated Mac cleaner app.

Pricing

On the bright side, DaisyDisk does not cost much. You can purchase a single license of the app for just $9.99, which is nothing compared to what other storage upgrade solutions cost. It also offers a 7-day free trial.

TheSweetBits verdict: If you’re a visual thinker and want to clean up space fast, DaisyDisk gives you a stunning bird’s-eye view of your disk usage.

CleanMyMac: Best for comprehensive cleaning

CleanMyMac has been our go-to Mac cleaning app for years, and we love recommending this app to our readers. But it does not stop us from objectively reviewing what this Mac cleaner can do. And after testing the latest version of CleanMyMac on macOS Sequoia we believe it deserves this top position.

cleanmymac

Things we love

To keep things as simple as possible, CleanMyMac contains everything you need to revive your Mac and keep it that way. We are talking about a combination of system junk cleaning, anti-malware protection, and speed optimization. So, it checks all the boxes you expect from this cleaner app.

On the Cleanup side, you get dedicated cleaners for System Junk, Mail Attachments, and Trash Bins. These utilities ensure that residual/junk files do not take up your Mac’s storage space. Finally, when we come to the Protection aspect, you get malware removal and privacy enhancement utilities.

CleanMyMac also packs dedicated utilities to deal with speed optimization and maintenance. They do a lot of tasks that can take you hours if done manually. You can restore your Mac to the best state possible with a single click. We also loved the dedicated tools for uninstalling and updating your installed apps.

The cleaning app also takes care of large files on your system. For instance, you can use the Space Lens option to see how your Mac’s storage space is used. Similarly, the Large & Old Files utility will help you eliminate unused/huge files from the Mac. Finally, the Shredder utility comes in handy while deleting confidential data.

The best part is that all these utilities work hand in hand. For instance, you can use the app’s smart assistant to carry out all these tasks. Moreover, if you do not want to keep the fully-fledged app open, a simple menu-bar app of CleanMyMac will give you timely updates.

What could be better

While we love how comprehensive CleanMyMac is, we cannot say it is perfect. For instance, the malware removal utility cannot replace a fully-fledged anti-malware program. So, it is an area where we would like to see some improvement.

It is also true that CleanMyMac can be a little expensive for some people. It would be nice if the developers could decrease the price to an extent. On the bright side, you can get the CleanMyMac app as a part of the Setapp subscription, which means you spend only a fraction of the amount.

Pricing

CleanMyMac uses a freemium model, where you can try the app before unlocking all features. So, when you go premium, you can find plans starting at $34.95 per Mac. CleanMyMac also offers 10% discount exclusively for TheSweetBits readers.

TheSweetBits verdict: If you’re short on time and want a cleaner, malware scanner, and performance monitor in one, CleanMyMac delivers convenience—especially for non-techies.

Sensei: Best for system monitoring and cleaning

If you think CleanMyMac does not offer much information about your Mac while reviving it, you may like to consider Sensei. The app combines a powerful system monitoring tool and an all-in-one cleaning and optimization solution.

Sensei 1

Things we love

When you get started with Sensei, it provides a comprehensive overview of your Mac. Depending on your machine, you can track the overall status of the SSD, RAM, CPU, GPU, and battery. Thanks to the intuitive UI throughout the app, you can understand if something is acting unusual.

But Sensei takes things further with the additional tool it packs. For instance, if you go to the Utilities section, you can find dedicated options to optimize your Mac, uninstall apps, clean junk files, or even trim your SSD. That’s right. If you have an old Mac with an SSD that could use the trimming feature, Sensei can help you.

You can also get an insane amount of monitoring data from your hardware components. For instance, there are dedicated sections for Storage, Graphics, Cooling, and Battery. So, if you want to know how much stress you are putting on your CPU or GPU, you can do it with Sensei.

More importantly, Sensei presents every critical piece of data simply. So, for instance, when you want to check the temperature of different system parts, you can see it in simple graphs. And if you want to keep an eye on what is happening with your Mac, you can keep the Sensei Monitor on your menu bar.

Overall, if you need a system monitor that also fixes many issues with your Mac, you cannot go wrong with Sensei. It is also great that Cindori, the developer, does a great job updating the app for the latest Mac desktops and notebooks.

What could be better

Even though Sensei works excellently with the latest macOS versions, we cannot say the same about backward compatibility. For instance, you cannot run this app on a Mac running a version older than macOS Catalina. So, if you plan to revive a considerably old Mac, you need something like CleanMyMac.

Similarly, although the cleaning options with Sensei are pretty comprehensive, you do not get many options for scheduling or notifications. It means you must keep an eye on where the RAM and disk usage are, for instance.

Pricing

You can download Sensei for free from the official website and use it for 14 days as a part of the free trial. After that, it costs you $29 per year or $59 (regular) per license, which you can use on up to three Macs.

TheSweetBits’ verdict: For users who want deep insights into their Mac’s performance alongside powerful cleaning and optimization, Sensei offers a great blend of system monitoring and practical utilities.

App Cleaner & Uninstaller: Best for app uninstalling

Sometimes, you do not need a comprehensive tool like CleanMyMac or Sensei. Instead, you need a more specific choice. In those instances, you can consider App Cleaner & Uninstaller by Nektony. This Mac cleaner app is designed to help you remove apps, system extensions, and leftover files.

AppCleaner

Things we love

App Cleaner & Uninstaller by Nektony offers a few advantages of being a dedicated Mac cleaner for removing apps and extensions. Therefore, you get multiple sorting/filtering options in each section. For instance, in the Applications section, you can sort your apps based on size and usage.

On the other hand, when you move to Startup Programs, you can see a simple-to-edit list of apps you have set up for startup login. Editing these login agents using App Cleaner & Uninstaller by Nektony is faster and more efficient than going to System Preferences.

In the same way, you can deal with extensions and remaining files. These two features are great if you install too many apps on your Mac for work or personal use. In addition, the ability to remove extensions will help you keep your browsers clean and optimized.

With the correct permissions, App Cleaner & Uninstaller by Nektony can make things even easier by changing the default apps for different file formats. This task is usually tedious because you have to locate other file formats individually. But with this app cleaner, you can do it from a single screen.

What could be better

Honestly, we do not find anything problematic with App Cleaner & Uninstaller by Nektony. Judging it as one of the dedicated apps for removing apps, it does more than what it is supposed to. And the developers are great when it comes to keeping the UI and features up-to-date.

However, you may be disappointed if you expect App Cleaner & Uninstaller by Nektony to clean your entire Mac system. There are some areas where you need external help. For instance, the app does help you get rid of system junk.

Pricing

You can either subscribe to the app for $11.95 or pay $49.95 as a one-time purchase fee. Before you do either of these, you can use the app in the free trial mode for 14 days.

TheSweetBits’ verdict: If your primary need is thoroughly removing unwanted applications and their lingering files, App Cleaner & Uninstaller is a highly effective, dedicated solution.

MacKeeper: Best for automatic cleaning

If you want cleaning features along with automation, you might want to check out MacKeeper. In many ways, MacKeeper is similar to CleanMyMac, but some of its features make it suitable for this position on this list.

MacKeeper

Things we love

MacKeeper checks almost all boxes when considering the features you need for cleaning and speeding up your Mac. For instance, you can easily quit memory-conscious apps and remove system junk files. It also has a malware-scanning utility that works just fine.

This app does a great job of helping you stay away from annoying things like adware and pop-ups. And it goes a step further by monitoring potential data leaks. But, again, it is a feature we do not see on Mac cleaners. You also get a built-in VPN, which does an incredible job.

The app does not hold back in terms of cleaning utilities. For instance, you get a duplicate finder and a smart uninstaller. Similarly, utilities in the Performance section come in handy when freeing up RAM or updating all your apps.

In addition, you can use the MacKeeper cleaner app to stay on top of your digital life. There are a bunch of premium services that you may want to check out. And the tech support from developers is incredible on most days.

What could be better

While we appreciate the richness of features on MacKeeper, we did notice the lack of intuitive design. So, if you want to sit back and relax, the results from the app can be a little overwhelming. So, we would keep that in mind when buying this app.

Rest assured, MacKeeper does everything it can to ensure the best condition for your Mac. And it can be a good solution if you want to make the extra effort to keep your Mac that way.

Pricing

You can get the 12-month plan of MacKeeper for $7.49 per month. There is also a free version, but it does not offer many features that make MacKeeper different in the first place.

TheSweetBits’ verdict: MacKeeper is a solid choice for users seeking an all-in-one solution that includes automated cleaning, real-time protection, and additional privacy features like a built-in VPN.

Disk Doctor Pro: Best for disk cleaning

If you need a different approach to disk cleaning on Mac, we recommend Disk Doctor Pro from Fiplab. This cleaning app does many things that DaisyDisk does not, but you need to make some compromises. So, if you need more than quick cleaning, you should consider this app.

DiskDoctor

Things we love

The first thing we love about Disk Doctor Pro is that it offers a comprehensive disk cleaning solution. On top of helping you clean up storage space, this app can also deal with other elements like residual files, backups, caches, logs, system junk, etc.

Because it is the Pro version of Disk Doctor, a popular app from Fiplab, you can expect advanced control over your Mac. You also get to decide what you remove from the Mac. It is better than clicking a single button and worrying about what the app may delete.

We also loved the modern UI of Disk Doctor Pro. While it does not provide a graphical overview of how the system storage space is taken up, the UI is easy to navigate and control. You can also make use of filters such as unused applications and installer packages.

What could be better

As we said, even though we love the User Interface of Disk Doctor Pro, it does not quite cut it for advanced users. For instance, you need to use an app like Finder to understand where your most enormous files are located. Then, it simply lists the files matching the criteria.

It is also annoying that Disk Doctor Pro does not have a free trial. So, to even see how the app performs on your PC, you need to purchase the premium version. We would love to see a free trial option with the app. Even the non-Pro version of the app is premium.

Pricing

You can purchase Disk Doctor Pro for just $9.99 from the official website or Mac App Store. It does not have a free trial or free version, though.

TheSweetBits’ verdict: Disk Doctor Pro is ideal for users who need a comprehensive disk cleaning solution beyond basic space analysis, offering detailed control over removing various junk and system files.

OnyX for Mac: Best free cleaning tool

OnyX is a small and free utility that can verify your Mac’s startup disk, run a variety of system scripts for cleaning tasks manually and rebuilding your Mac. The developer offers specific OnyX versions for every major version of macOS. When a new version of macOS comes out, you have to revisit the OnyX site and grab the latest release. Every version is free and very small. So, you won’t waste space.

It’s handy for deleting caches, removing redundant and excessive files and folders, rebuilding databases and indexes, and making your machine run more smoothly and with added disk space. Just be careful playing with these settings. They’re helpful and can improve your Mac’s performance, but if you don’t know what a given setting is supposed to do, you’re probably best off not changing it.

TheSweetBits’ verdict: We think it’s excellent for tech-savvy and experienced Mac users to take significantly more time to get around and find what you need, then learn how to use it, but the result pays.

Honorable mentions

Here are the other Mac cleaner apps we tested for this review. Not every app we tested is listed here, but these are the ones worth mentioning.

CCleaner Professional

For years, the standard in PC cleaner software has been CCleaner. Now, Mac users can benefit from the experience that the Piriform developers bring to the table. CCleaner Professional is quick and easy to use the program, which speeds up your Mac and secures it. Although CCleaner has a free version, there are only some basic features aimed at a faster Mac and privacy protection.

ccleaner

At the premium level with a price of $24.95, you have Automatic Clutter/Browser Cleaning, Duplicate/Large file Cleaning, App Uninstalling, and what they call “Bad Photos Remove Support”. These five cleaning options inside CCleaner can help you remove junk files, trash files, unused data, unwanted files, and software

Though CCleaner Professional has many helpful features, it lacks some options. For instance, it always stays as a simple tool for cleaning temporary files and internet cache.

MacBooster

MacBooster from IObit is a powerful Mac maintenance tool for cleaning up Mac computers and offers proper functionality for its class. MacBooster and Mackeeper have quite similar functionality, offering users several cleaning options and tools: system cleanup, finding duplicates, deleting large files, uninstalling applications, protecting your Mac from virus and malware, etc.

macbooster

Start by clicking Clean and Boost, for example, and four sections – Internet Security, System Cleanup, System Optimization, and Disk Clean – are scanned for errors, threats, and redundant files. After a quick review, you can simply click the Fix button and proceed. We also liked MacBooster’s performance boost tool, which shuts down low-level services to speed up your Mac further.

MacBooster gives the 14-day trial a whirl, but the trial version of this app can only complete the preliminary steps of each function. After that, it requires a $2.49/month subscription.

Cleaner One Pro

Cleaner One Pro (formerly known as Dr. Cleaner) does many things that DaisyDisk does not, but you need to make some compromises. So, if you need more than quick cleaning, you may consider this app.

DrClean

Because it is the Pro version of Dr. Cleaner, a popular app from Trend Micro, you can expect advanced control over your Mac. It deals with other elements like big files, duplicates, app manager, etc. You also get to decide what you remove from the Mac. It is better than clicking a single button and worrying about what the app may delete.

Even though we love the quick cleanup, it does not quite cut it for advanced users. For instance, you need to use an app like Finder to understand where your most enormous files are located. Then, it simply lists the files matching the criteria.

You can purchase Cleaner One Pro for $19.99 from the official website or download it from Mac App Store for free.

Disk Diet

Disk Diet is a tool that automatically scans your Mac’s storage drive and cleans it by deleting all trash files. You don’t have to do a thing. The app will automatically look through the cache and the drive to keep it clean and optimized.

diskdiet

The UI is minimal, and you don’t even have a clear breakdown of the storage space. It features a one-click optimization tool, and you can clean all the trash by just clicking the “Diet” button. Of course, we have included Disk Diet as a limited alternative only. It cannot be compared to DaisyDisk or CleanMyMac on any day. But, if you prefer a tiny tool, Disk Diet helps you with the baby steps.

Disk Diet is a paid Mac app with a price tag of $5. It also offers a limited free trial version that helps you clear 500 MB of trash files.

Hyperspace

This utility takes a different approach to reclaiming disk space by leveraging APFS (Apple File System) technology. Instead of deleting files, Hyperspace identifies duplicate files and optimizes storage by creating “clones” that share the same data while maintaining separate metadata. This non-destructive process ensures that your files remain fully accessible and intact.

Hyperspace is ideal for users who want to save space without risking data loss, especially those with large media libraries or older Macs.

It’s available for a free scan, with pricing options starting at $9.99/month.

OmniDiskSweeper

OmniDiskSweeper is a free disk space analyzer for macOS, developed by The Omni Group. With its simple interface resembling the macOS Finder, the tool lets you view files sorted by size, starting from the largest, making it easy to identify storage hogs.

The app efficiently scans internal and external drives, as well as network volumes, to locate large files. You can easily delete unwanted files with a single click of the “Delete” button, but the software also provides warnings when attempting to delete files critical to macOS or installed applications.

OmniDiskSweeper is completely free to download and use, but it might lack some of the polish or advanced options found in paid alternatives.

FAQs

Are Mac cleaner apps safe to use?

While we cannot talk about all Mac cleaner apps out there, the Mac cleaning software we have recommended on this list are 100% safe to use. We have personally tested these apps and have been using them for months, if not years. So, you do not have to worry about security while choosing any of these apps.

Do I really need a Mac cleaner?

Just like Windows, macOS also generates temporary/junk files over time. If you use your Mac for simple tasks like web browsing or checking email, this won’t be a problem. If you use your Mac for intensive tasks like development, software testing, video editing, or research, you need one of the best Mac cleaner apps.

Does Mac have a system cleanup?

Mac’s got your back on that system cleanup! First, tackle storage with “Optimize Storage” (Apple logo > About This Mac > Storage > Manage) – it frees up space by offloading dusty files and rarely used apps. Feeling brave? Dive into “Delete System Data” and safely remove temporary caches and leftovers. Spotlight’s your cleanup buddy too – use it to hunt down forgotten apps, bulky files, and pesky duplicates. For resource hogs, Activity Monitor (Applications > Utilities) lets you identify and shut them down with a click. Need to go deeper? Advanced users can access the Library folder (Finder > Go > Go to Folder) to manually remove app leftovers. Remember, backup before any major cleaning adventure!

What is the best free Mac cleaner?

You have a number of options when you need a free Mac cleaning software, including Onyx, CCleaner Free for Mac, App Cleaner, and Disk Doctor. You can also use the Storage Optimization feature on macOS. But we think Onyx remains the best free Mac cleaner if you do not want to pay.

How to choose the best cleaner for Mac?

As you can see, these Mac cleaners above can help your Mac in different ways. And all of them allow you to keep your Mac running the best way possible. However, depending on your needs and technical expertise, you may need only one.

For instance, Macpaw CleanMyMac remains the best choice for most people. The comprehensive cleaning app has what it takes to keep your Mac clean and optimized. In addition, you do not have to worry about mechanic tasks thanks to scheduling options.

On the other hand, if you want more system info, you may want to go for Sensei. Other options like Nektony App Cleaner & Uninstaller and MacKeeper are great options if you are specific about the features you need in a cleaning app. For users looking to reclaim disk space without deleting files, newer tools like Hyperspace offer innovative solutions using APFS technology.

The post How CleanMyMac Helped Me Revive My Mac first appeared on TheSweetBits.

Isn’t it so frustrating when your Mac starts to slow down? You would not want to wait minutes for your Mac mini, MacBook Pro, or iMac to wake up, correct? It’s even more frustrating when your relatively new Mac slows down. But, of course, we are talking about Mac devices you may have purchased in 2023 or 2022.

But when you think about it, MacBooks and other Mac devices are designed to be a long-term investment, right? Well, they still are. It’s just that you need to revive your Mac sometimes. Reviving your Mac may seem confusing, but it is easier and less expensive than upgrading to a new MacBook, iMac, or Mac Pro.

I have done it with some of my Mac devices, and CleanMyMac, a Mac cleaning and optimization tool, was a lifesaver. So, I have prepared this guide to show you how it helped me revive my Mac.

It is also a story of how CleanMyMac helped me save hundreds of dollars that I may otherwise have spent on upgrades.

Key takeaways

 • CleanMyMac delivers a comprehensive suite of tools for Mac optimization and maintenance.
 • The software effectively frees up storage space, speeds up system performance, and protects against malware.
 • User-friendly interface and automated processes simplify the cleaning process.
 • Additional features like app uninstallation and menubar monitor enhance its utility.
 • While offering significant improvements, some users might find the malware protection module to be less robust than dedicated antivirus solutions.

CleanMyMac in 2025

CleanMyMac has been our go-to Mac cleaning and optimization suite for years. While new competitors have emerged, CleanMyMac still stands out in 2025—here’s why:

 • Optimized for macOS Sequoia – CleanMyMac is fully compatible with macOS Sequoia, so you can install it without worrying about compatibility issues.
 • Enhanced Security – The latest version is built to comply with Sequoia’s new security measures, ensuring seamless integration with macOS. Plus, it’s fortified against emerging threats.
 • Advanced Malware Protection – CleanMyMac’s malware detection and removal tools have been supercharged. With better real-time protection, it’s more equipped to detect zero-day threats.
 • Smarter App & Background Item Management – The new version streamlines app uninstallation and background process management, making it easier to keep your Mac clutter-free.

But are these upgrades really worth it? Well, let me share how CleanMyMac helped me revive and speed up my Mac in ways I didn’t expect.

The experience aka how CleanMyMac helped me revive my Mac

As you know, there is a manual way to clean up and optimize a Mac. But first, you have to find out big files, unwanted applications, and junk files and remove them. I was aware of this method but was a little skeptical. For one, I did not want to accidentally delete a critical system file. Nor did I want to make any system-level changes that would turn out negatively.

Overall, the manual cleaning method did not appeal to me as viable or safe. After some research and several Reddit threats, I came across CleanMyMac from MacPaw. Since I had used other apps from MacPaw in the past, I was confident about the security. I understood that CleanMyMac is not adware or bundleware. It seemed very legit—for all the good reasons.

Getting started with CleanMyMac

Probably the best thing about CleanMyMac is that you can get started with it in a few seconds. Moreover, thanks to its intuitive UI and design, it is easy to use all the utilities. The first time I used CleanMyMac, the Smart Care feature caught my attention. Smart Care is designed to analyze different aspects of your Mac to find room for cleaning, optimization, and speed improvement. And it works smoothly.

In particular, the Smart Care looks for five aspects:

 • Cleanup your Mac
 • Look for threats
 • Boost performance
 • Run applications update
 • Declutter storage

cmm smartscan

After a scan that takes about a minute, CleanMyMac will show you a summary with actionable items. Then, you can review potential fixes before applying them. For instance, CleanMyMac offered to clean up a whopping 40GB of space on my Mac.

Upon reviewing the results, I discovered that the Mac Trash and System Junk were responsible for the severe storage space issue on my Mac.

cmm scanresult

The scan took a few minutes, but I could start seeing a better experience from my Mac.

You can also find smart recommendations from CleanMyMac once it has finished fixing the primary issue. For instance, it may suggest uninstalling unused apps, purging available space, or running a deep scan to improve the in-depth problems.

That’s when I checked out the powerful utilities in the CleanMyMac package. I tried the utilities featured in different sub-sections like Cleanup, Protection, Performance, Applications, and Clutter. Here is what I think of them.

# Junk Cleanup

As you may know, macOS generates system files like logs, which, while initially necessary, can become outdated and consume disk space within the “Other” storage category. These temporary files don’t automatically disappear.

Manually deleting them carries the risk of removing essential data, which is why Apple doesn’t simplify this process. The CleanMyMac is designed to deeply identify and remove only the system files that are safe to delete. As I had expected, various system junk files were taking up a lot of my storage and slowing down my Mac.

To remove system files, I

 • Open CleanMyMac and go to the Cleanup section.
 • Click Scan, and then Clean.

After the system junk cleanup, particularly if this is my first time cleaning my Mac, I notice a significant reduction in the “Other” storage used by macOS. In our experience, this method freed up gigabytes of space on our MacBook.
cmm cleanupmgmt

Trash Bins are also more helpful than one would imagine, especially if you have multiple Trash bins on your Mac. You can clean multiple Trash Bins at once. This was a helpful thing, especially in showing that my Mac had multiple trash bins.

Another helpful tool to free up storage is Mail Attachments. Even if you forget to delete unimportant mail attachments, CleanMyMac will help you with that. Since I was not using any native email apps on my Mac, this section was not really helpful.

# Malware Protection

CleanMyMac includes a thorough malware scanner that identifies and removes even sophisticated threats. Its Protection feature also provides real-time malware and virus protection.

cmm protection 1Here’s how I use CleanMyMac to scan for and eliminate malware:

 • Open CleanMyMac and select “Protection” from the sidebar.
 • As it’s my first time using this feature, I configure the scan. I click “Configure Scan” to select the file types to check, and for a comprehensive scan, I choose “Deep Scan.”
 • Then, I click “Scan” to initiate the system-wide scan. It found 29 threats on my system.
 • Once the scan is complete, I click “Remove” to eliminate them.
 • Finally, I review application permissions to ensure no apps can access my files without my knowledge.

Please note CleanMyMac’s malware database is updated weekly, which significantly reduces the risk of malware infiltrating the system.

The Privacy module on CleanMyMac helps you take a step further regarding online security. For example, I often use it to remove browsing traces and chat data in a single click. I found this quite impressive as it helps us stay one step ahead of privacy threats.

# Performance Monitor

Here we’ll take a look at CleanMyMac’s performance monitor with menu bar. This menu app offers a detailed snapshot of your Mac’s health and performance, making it easy to keep your system in check. One of my favorite aspects is the ability to connect Dropbox, allowing me to preview its capacity directly from the menu!

CMM performancemenu

In this section, you can get an overview of

 • Real-time system monitoring: Track CPU usage, RAM consumption, battery health, and storage space in real-time.
 • Security insights: Stay informed about malware status and update your database for optimal protection.
 • Storage management: Analyze storage usage, identify large files, and clean up junk.
 • Battery health tracking: Monitor battery temperature, percentage, and charge cycles.

CleanMyMac’s menu bar monitor has also evolved managing connected devices. You can monitor the health of devices like iPhones and iPads, as well as manage external drives and bluetooth devices. While it does the job well enough for my core devices, it’s not quite as comprehensive as a dedicated battery management tool like AlDente Pro. However, it’s still a handy feature to have right within the app, adding convenience to the overall experience.

# Applications Uninstall

You can use the Application utility to find and remove multiple Mac apps at once. It also helped me find out unused/unopened applications. It was a great way to free up space on my Mac.

cmm uninstall

When you delete an application, leftover components can remain, often running small service apps that continue to use your Mac’s processor and memory. The Leftover module solves this by fully removing apps and all their associated components, regardless of their location.

On the other hand, the Updater module helped me update all my Mac apps with a single click. It meant I did not have to visit multiple app stores. For instance, I could manage all the apps I installed from Setapp, other app stores, etc.

# Clutter Control

And the last feature is a fully-fledged clutter manager, which helped me find out what is taking up storage on my device. It is also helpful in removing these huge/unnecessary files.

cmm declutter

Alternatively, you can use the Duplicates & Similar Images module to have a more filtered view. Once again, I was able to clean up the system better.

Note: To avoid unintended deletions, CleanMyMac only removes files from the category you are currently viewing. For example, even if you previously selected files in the ‘Duplicates’ category, clicking ‘Remove’ while viewing ‘Large & Old Files’ will only delete files from the ‘Large & Old Files’ category.

Now, the big question: did CleanMyMac revive my Mac?

Yes. After the first use of CleanMyMac, I got the following perks:

 • Right away, I noticed that my Mac could multitask better. Handling multiple browser windows and shifting between apps was smoother than before. I also saw that my Mac worked better with multi-touch gestures.
 • More importantly, there was a lot of available storage space. I could use this space to arrange my files better and sync them with other devices. Otherwise, I would have had to purchase an extra SSD for my machine.
 • Last but not least, there was less clutter on my Mac altogether. I could remove unwanted apps, files, and extensions with a single click. In addition, because CleanMyMac arranged everything based on categories, it was a lot easier.

In short, within a few minutes, CleanMyMac revived different aspects of my Mac. And I could put aside the thought of purchasing an additional SSD or upgrading to an expensive model. So, it was worth whatever I spent on CleanMyMac.

For reference, CleanMyMac is available for $39.95 per year. But since I use the Setapp subscription, I did not have to pay anything.

The improvements

It is not to say that CleanMyMac is perfect. As you would expect, there is room for improvement.

 • The malware removal utility on CleanMyMac does not quite replace an antimalware program. So even though it detects various threats, it could use some improvements.
 • Some utilities like Extensions and Updater can also use some improvements. For example, they are not 100% right when detecting and categorizing elements.

If we keep these points aside, CleanMyMac is an exceptional choice I can recommend.

The competition

There is no scarcity of Mac cleaning and optimization apps on the market. You can find various options which offer different levels of control and features. Some of them are:

CCleaner for Mac is a popular option people swear by, especially those who have moved from Windows to macOS. This cleaning app can do a thorough cleaning of your Mac, helping you get rid of junk files and apps. It also works closely with browser extensions and removing bad/duplicate photos from your Mac.

MacKeeper is also a popular choice for many. However, even though the cleaning suite offers a couple of great cleaning utilities, we felt the tool is not comprehensive enough. But you can give it a try if you already have a good idea about what is slowing down your Mac.

We have also recommended Sensei as a great Mac optimization tool, but it can be a little tricky to get used to. For instance, it does not have a smart wizard or anything. However, on the bright side, Sensei gives you a lot of system information.

Overall, we think the competition does not cut it when considering the comprehensive Mac cleaning and optimization abilities of CleanMyMac.

The conclusion

As is evident, I truly appreciate CleanMyMac for its powerful features and intuitive UI. The developers also actively listen to user feedback, constantly enhancing the app by improving malware detection and introducing additional speedup tools. This makes CleanMyMac not just a one-time purchase, but an evolving tool that adapts to your needs over time. More importantly, the money you invest in this cleanup solution could potentially save you from larger expenses, such as hardware upgrades or an external SSD.

Rest assured, if you have a relatively new Mac that’s slowing down, CleanMyMac can help. And with a free 7-day trial, you can explore all the features and modules of the app without any limitations before making your decision.

There is nothing more unfortunate than losing an entire disk partition. It might happen when you are trying to install a new OS or repartitioning a drive. I have also come across partitions that are corrupted due to virus attacks, system crashes, etc.

On the bright side, thanks to the control that Microsoft Windows offers, you get a few options to fix the problem. A partition recovery tool is one of them. That said, choosing the right partition recovery tool for Windows can be quite confusing, primarily due to the number of choices.

Here’s something I have done.

I tested a few drives with formatted/corrupted/deleted partitions with some of the most popular partition recovery tools for Windows. The idea was simple: find which partition recovery tools you can rely the most on when it comes to recovering a partition.

TL;DR: Top 10 partition recovery software tools

What is partition recovery software & why you need it?

So, what exactly is partition recovery software, and why should you care? Simply put, it’s your lifeline when a drive partition goes missing or becomes inaccessible. Think of your hard drive as a filing cabinet, and partitions as the individual drawers. Partition recovery software is the tool you use to find a drawer that’s been misplaced, damaged, or simply vanished.

You might need it in situations like these:

 • Accidental Deletion: We’ve all been there – a slip of the mouse, and a partition is gone.
 • Botched Operating System Installations: Trying to install a new OS, or even just updating, can sometimes corrupt the partition table.
 • Virus Attacks and System Crashes: These can wreak havoc on your file system, leading to partition loss.
 • Drive Errors: Let’s be honest, sometimes the drive itself is the problem.

Why not just restore from a backup? Well, not everyone has a recent backup. Partition recovery software offers a chance to salvage your data without starting from scratch. It can save you time, money (compared to professional recovery services), and a whole lot of frustration.

These tools aim to restore access to your partition and its data with minimal extra damage to the drive. Now that you are more aware of partition recovery and its importance, let’s get into which tools worked out the best!

Note: It is essential to note that this article is for educational purposes, and we do not guarantee data recovery or take responsibility for any loss. Using the below-mentioned partition recovery tools is at your own risk. These tools worked as they did during our testing, but the final results depend on many factors.

10 Best Partition Recovery Tools for Windows

At TheSweetBits, we began with an array of 25 data recovery tools that offered partition recovery options. Most of the tools were general data recovery tools, but there were, of course, dedicated options. As I said, we tested HDDs as well as SSDs that had earlier contained partitions. In some cases, these partitions were deliberately deleted, but we included drives with corrupted partitions as well.

All the testing was done on a Windows PC with a 13th-generation Intel processor and 16GB of RAM. All HDDs and SSDs were connected using a USB 3.0 port to ensure that variables didn’t affect the judgment. In addition to the success rates of the data recovery tool, other factors like ease of use and compatibility were also taken into consideration.

Now that you know about the testing, shall we move to detailed reviews of the four top options you have? We will also mention our experience with other top contenders.

#1 EaseUS Partition Recovery

At the top spot, we have the much-deserving EaseUS Partition Recovery. In addition to offering the highest partition recovery success rates, this tool from EaseUS packs an intuitive UI design. It thus becomes one of the partition recovery tools that don’t need you to be tech-savvy.

easeus partition

Like the many EaseUS tools we have tested, EaseUS Partition Recovery also follows a three-step process. So, after you have installed the app, you can select a disk, preview available partitions, and recover the partitions you want to have back.

Our Testing Experience

We tried testing EaseUS Partition Recovery with multiple storage devices like SATA and M2 drives. We also made sure that it works with different file systems like NTFS, FAT, and Ext2/Ext3. The program worked great with multiple partition tables, including MBR and GPT.

A worth-mentioning feature is “Explore support” as it helped us with selecting the partitions that we need to restore. We used the explore feature by clicking on the lost partition to preview the stored files and narrowed down the necessary partitions while avoiding unnecessary ones.

We faced a slight delay while dealing with corrupt partitions. However, it is still impressive that Partition Recovery from EaseUS can handle such devices in the first place. Many generic data recovery tools we tested were not able to detect corrupted drives.

Pricing

Though EaseUS Partition Recovery offers a free version, it lacks many features. If you want access to all the features like RAW recovery and maximum compatibility, you need the paid plan. You can pay either $49.95 per month or $69.95 per year for this package. If you prefer a one-time payment, you can get it for $99.95.

The Final Take

Considering the features and speed it offers, EaseUS Partition Recovery is a worthwhile investment for most people out there. If you prioritize compatibility and success rates over generic features, you’d appreciate the package from EaseUS.

Pros

 • User-friendly interface
 • Powerful scanning algorithms
 • Wide compatibility

Cons

 • Limited effectiveness in certain data loss scenarios

Editor’s Note: While EaseUS Partition Recovery is a great choice for partition-specific issues, those needing a more comprehensive data recovery solution should explore the EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard for its broader file recovery and repair capabilities. This tool offers a wider range of features in its premium versions, including advanced file repair and recovery options beyond just partitions.

#2 AOMEI Partition Assistant

AOMEI Partition Assistant is an all-rounder and is ideal for those looking for a complete partition tool that can recover data as well. It packs a clean and simple design, making it accessible to both new and experienced users. It assists you with multiple steps in handling disk partitions, including cloning and booting.

aomei partition

Getting started with AOMEI Partition Assistant was straightforward. First, you select the disk containing the lost partition, then initiate a scan. The software then searches for lost or deleted partitions. Once the scan is complete, you can preview the found partitions and their contents.

Finally, you select the partition you want to recover and initiate the recovery process.

Our Testing Experience

Like the overall best option, AOMEI Partition Assistant also handled the variety of storage devices and file systems with ease. We felt that AOMEI gets an additional advantage in terms of compatibility, probably because it is designed to be a comprehensive assistance suite.

It also works with different file systems like NTFS, FAT2, FAT16, exFAT, ReFS, Ext2, Ext3, and Ext4. We found the Preview feature quite handy as we have the option to know what is inside without spending resources or time recovering everything.

While the interface is intuitive, it may feel slightly dated compared to some other tools on the market. However, its comprehensive feature set and robust performance make it a strong contender in the partition recovery space.

Price

AOMEI Partition Assistant offers a free standard version with basic partition management features. For advanced features like partition recovery, you need to upgrade to a paid version. The pricing options include a yearly subscription for $49.95, which covers two PCs, and a lifetime license for $59.95.

The Final Take

In the end, despite being recovery-focused, AOMEI Partition Assistant does a great job of dealing with various types of disk partitions. Considering the reasonable pricing plans, we can’t ask for more from this package. It thus suits most people who need a better way to manage partitions.

Pros

 • Easy partition management
 • Drag-and-drop interface
 • Supports various file systems

Cons

 • Poor error handling

#3 Partition Recovery by Disk Internals

You should check out Partition Recovery by Disk Internals if you need a professional partition recovery suite for all intents and purposes. This tool is made for professionals, offering maximum performance in terms of recovery success rates and compatibility.

DiskInternals

Setting up Partition Recovery by Disk Internals on your Windows PC does not take more than a few minutes at max. We were excited to try the app, considering its compatibility claims, but we thought the UI could use some improvements.

Our Testing Experience

Once we installed and started with the recovery operation, and just like any tool, we were asked to pick the disk on which we wanted to perform the restore operation. However, the interesting thing happened once we selected a disk and proceeded to the Folder Structure Recovery window.

The program offers two scanning modes here. The Full Recovery mode provided the flexibility to manage and manually select the file systems of our liking. On the other hand, the “Fast Recovery” mode is straightforward and ideal for lightly damaged disks.

Once the recovery operation was done, we noticed that the Full Recovery mode did a significantly better job than the Fast Recovery mode, with better recovery featuring more files. However, on the dark side, the Fast Recovery mode took a lot of time to finish.

The performance was good, but we were disappointed with the Preview section as it felt completely outdated. The interface of the Preview section resembled a combination of Windows XP and Windows 7 themes, and we couldn’t preview everything inside the selected partition.

Pricing

Once the free trial is complete, you can get Disk Internals Partition Recovery for either $39.95 (Personal) or $219.95 (Business). All these plans offer core features like advanced compatibility, but you may not get extra options like Exporting to Virtual Disk and offering data recovery services to third parties.

Our Take

Despite its rudimentary UI design, Disk Internals Partition Recovery is a great choice for professionals. The tool offers great value in terms of performance and compatibility. We really liked the option to read disk partitions from macOS and Linux.

Pros

 • Three scanning modes
 • Supports RAID recovery
 • File preview feature

Cons

 • It can be complex for beginners

#4 MiniTool Power Data Recovery

MiniTool Power Data Recovery is a feature-packed, comprehensive tool that’s perfect for anyone in search of the ultimate data recovery solution. It offers a wide range of features, from the basic to the advanced, and one of its standout capabilities is partition recovery.

minitool partition

Starting with the downloading and installing MiniTool software, there were no issues, and the setup file took care of the entire installation. Even though the home screen is intuitive, we felt room for improvement, and with additional refinement, it would arguably be the best in its segment.

Our Testing Experience

Our testing showed that MiniTool Power Data Recovery supports the retrieval of lost partitions due to accidental deletion, formatting, or other system errors. The tool scans the storage media thoroughly, searching for lost partitions and displaying them in a clear and understandable manner.

We can preview files within the found partitions before initiating the recovery process. Additionally, we have the option to selectively recover specific files or folders, saving time and storage space by excluding unnecessary data.

Aside from partition recovery, MiniTool Power Data Recovery offers a range of other useful features. These include data recovery from damaged or deleted files, CD/DVD drives, SSDs, USB drives, memory cards, and the ability to recover data from inaccessible or corrupted drives.

Pricing

The free version of MiniTool Power Data Recovery has a 1GB file limit. If you want unlimited recovery of disk partitions and files, you can get the paid version for $69 per month. The premium versions also offer extra features like scan result history and support for WinPE bootable media.

The Final Take

Whether you’re a novice or an expert, MiniTool Power Data Recovery has got you covered when it comes to managing your partitions with ease. The performance was impressive, and we recommend this tool to most people.

Pros

 • Easy to use
 • Supports various storage devices
 • Quick scan option

Cons

 • 1GB recovery limit in the free version

#5 Hetman Partition Recovery

If you want support for multiple storage devices and file systems such as FAT, NTFS, exFAT, HFS+, etc., you must check out the Hetman Partition Recovery. Like most prominent partition recovery tools, it comes with advanced scanning and recovery algorithms, resulting in faster scanning and recovery of lost partitions.

hetman partition

On the other hand, the interface is one of the best-looking in the segment, as it is easy to navigate. The paid versions pack more features, and it is a great choice if you have to deal with many partition recoveries. Our experience with Hetman Partition Recovery was satisfactory, but we encountered a few more glitches.

For instance, we had to completely disable our antimalware suite before Hetman Partition Recovery could start up. You should watch out for these minor issues while using the app. On the bright side, the app does a great job of integrating with Windows.

As for pricing, the paid version of Hetman Partition Recovery starts at $37.95.

Pros

 • User-friendly interface
 • Supports all Windows versions
 • HEX editor

Cons

 • Conflicts with anti-malware suites

#6 Recoverit

Wondershare’s Recoverit is a data recovery tool that is different from the standard partition recovery tool. With Recoverit, we start by selecting a disk, and the recovery begins automatically. So, you get to decide if you want to recover an entire partition or a single file from the bunch.

recoverit

Unlike the partition recovery tools, all the lost data is displayed in one place, and one doesn’t have to worry about managing partitions after recovering them. Like our list’s top three partition recovery tools, Recoverit supports all file system types and storage devices.

You also get a few extra features with the package. For instance, the Enhanced Recovery option offers the best results with removable devices. Meanwhile, its corrupted video repair utility and NAS data recovery are also great. Considering it is from Wondershare, the interface is free of issues.

The premium plans for Wondershare Recoverit are available for $79.99 per month.

Pros

 • Versatile file recovery
 • User-friendly design
 • Supports over 1000 file types

Cons

 • It may not be effective in all data loss scenarios

#7 TestDisk

If you believe you’re technically sound and can work with complex tools while referring to a few tutorials and walkthroughs, then TestDisk is for you. For starters, TestDisk is open software designed to recover lost partitions and can make non-booting disks bootable again.

testdisk

One capable of using TestDisk would never consider checking out any tools as it can easily handle all the recovery operations. TestDisk can easily compete with any modern data recovery tool, but the downside lies in its complexity and outdated interface.

However, it would be an absolute steal for only those who can figure out how to use it.

Pros

 • Free and open-source
 • Supports multiple file systems
 • Powerful recovery features

Cons

 • Steep learning curve

#8 DiskGenius

DiskGenius is another disk management and data recovery software that is extremely efficient at recovering lost data. We were extremely happy with its performance, but the reason for not considering it for top spots was its interface.

diskgenius

The interface is very technical, and most people might find it confusing, and only a few would navigate around and use the features without difficulty. There are no additional limitations; on the bright side, it supports multiple file systems and storage devices.

We have noticed the paid version offers additional flexibility, but there is no improvement to the interface. Hence, we suggest looking for a recovery tool with an intuitive interface that provides great performance and recovery rate.

Pros

 • Comprehensive partition management
 • Supports virtual disk images
 • HEX editor

Cons

 • Complex interface for beginners

#9 Disk Drill

If you don’t want to go through the entire process of restoring and recovering a partition to get back the lost data, then Disk Drill is for you. Disk Drill is an efficient and reliable data recovery suite that can recover lost data from removable drives, hard drives, and physical/virtual partitions.

diskdrill partition

Like other disk recovery tools, it has advanced scanning algorithms and support for multiple storage devices and file types. However, it stands out from the rest because of its special tools, such as disk cleanup, duplicate file finder, and disk health monitoring.

The intuitive interface of Disk Drill is probably the best looking in its segment and matches the theme of Windows 11. One wouldn’t find it difficult to navigate, and even beginners can easily use this tool to recover lost data.

Pros

 • User-friendly interface
 • Supports various file systems
 • Free version available

Cons

 • Limited features in the free version

#10 Stellar Data Recovery

While looking for data recovery with an extremely simple and user-friendly interface, we crossed paths with the Stellar Data Recovery tool. The interface is so straightforward that an individual with no prior experience or knowledge would use it straight away with ease.

stellar

We felt nothing new with the Stellar Data Recovery tool except for the interface. Like every other data recovery tool, it features custom advanced scanning algorithms paired with support for multiple storage devices and file types.

The recovery rate is promising, and purchasing a pro version can help you gain access to a few perks. These additional perks enhance the overall usability and performance, resulting in better data recovery. These paid plans start at $69.99.

Pros

 • Advanced recovery features
 • Supports encrypted drives
 • User-friendly interface

Cons

 • Expensive compared to competitors

Navigating file systems on a Mac can be tricky, especially when dealing with NTFS. If you’ve ever tried to write files to an NTFS-formatted drive on your Mac, you know the frustration of hitting that invisible wall of incompatibility.

But don’t worry—there’s good news. We’ve done the heavy lifting to find the best NTFS tools for Mac, making it easier for you to manage your files across different operating systems.

TheSweetBits’ top 3 picks for NTFS on Mac

The NTFS-Mac conundrum

Before diving into the best tools, let’s talk about why NTFS can be a headache on a Mac. NTFS, or New Technology File System, is a proprietary file system developed by Microsoft, widely used in Windows environments for its robust features and performance. However, macOS provides only read-only support for NTFS out of the box. This means you can view files but can’t write or edit them, which is a significant inconvenience for users who need full access.

This happens due to compatibility and licensing issues. macOS prefers its own file systems like HFS+ and APFS, while Windows uses NTFS. The lack of write support is frustrating, especially for users switching between macOS and Windows or dealing with NTFS drives from others.

Thankfully, third-party tools can bridge this gap, enabling full NTFS write support on your Mac and making cross-platform file management seamless. Let’s explore the best options available.

Testing methodology

To identify the best NTFS tools, we conducted extensive testing in a controlled environment:

 • Virtual Machine Setup: Utilized macOS Sonoma virtual machines to ensure consistency in testing conditions.
 • Performance Testing: Evaluated each tool’s ability to mount NTFS drives in read-write mode and perform various file operations.
 • Real-World Testing: Further validated performance on physical devices, including 2019 and 2023 MacBook Air models running macOS 12.2.1 Monterey and 14.0 Sonoma.

Best Virtual Machine (VM) Software for Mac https://thesweetbits.com/best-virtual-machine-software-mac/ Mon, 15 Apr 2024 01:10:33 +0000 https://thesweetbits.com/?p=14989 With the unleashed power of Apple Silicon chips, Macs have come a long way with virtualization.

The post Best Virtual Machine (VM) Software for Mac first appeared on TheSweetBits.

Unlike Windows PCs, Mac notebooks and desktops are not that flexible regarding other Operating Systems. Even though Boot Camp exists, setting up Windows or Linux in the dual-boot mode is challenging. It is one primary reason people go for Virtual Machine software.

Virtual Machine software, also known as VM software and desktop virtualization tools, makes it possible for you to run other operating systems within your Mac. Because these virtual desktops use virtual hardware, it is not necessary to reboot your Mac to run Windows or Linux. Instead, you can open the corresponding VM software and run the OS.

With the unleashed power of Apple Silicon chips, Macs have come a long way with virtualization. So, you get a lot of options when you need powerful virtual machine software for your MacBook, iMac, or Mac mini. It can be a little confusing, though.

To make sure you make an informed decision, check out our guide on the best virtual machine software for Mac.

TheSweetBits’ top 3 VM software picks

 • Parallels Desktop: best for overall ease of use and seamless Windows integration.
 • VMware Fusion Player: best for advanced users who need maximum control over their virtual machines.
 • VirtualBox: best for free and lightweight virtual machine solution.

Virtualization on Macs

Since macOS Big Sur, Macs support both Intel and Apple Silicon processors. While this is great for Mac apps, it adds complexity to virtualization.

Here’s the breakdown:

 • Intel Macs: Virtualization is straightforward. Popular operating systems like Windows and Linux run smoothly due to their established presence on Intel platforms.
 • Apple Silicon Macs (M1/M2/M3): Virtualization options are more limited. While ARM versions of Windows 11 exist, they achieve compatibility by emulating x86 processors. So, you’re essentially running a virtual machine with Windows for ARM, further emulating an x86 environment. This can impact performance.

The takeaway: Virtualization on Intel Macs remains simpler, while Apple Silicon users face limitations and potential performance trade-offs.

Because of these limitations, choosing the right virtual machine software is even more important for Apple Silicon users. Here’s a breakdown of the best solutions we found.

Best virtual machine software for Mac users

We tested over 20 virtual machine options for Mac and picked the top 3 (see how we choose our tools). Discover the best solutions for running Windows or other operating systems on your Mac, including Parallels, VMware, and VirtualBox.

#1 Parallels Desktop: overall ease of use & seamless integration

Parallels Desktop is currently the easiest and most efficient way to run Virtual Machines on your Mac. Even though it packs many more features than traditional virtual machine software, Parallels Desktop works just as efficiently when installing Windows, Linux, or Chrome OS on your MacBook or iMac. After using this tool for over a couple of years, we believe Parallels Desktop deserves the top position on this list.

Getting Started

After you have installed Parallels Desktop on your Mac, it takes only a few minutes to start using your first VM.

image1 1

Parallels Desktop gives you two options to create a VM during the setup wizard. First, you can use one of the existing operating system ISO files from your storage. Or, you can directly download popular OSs like Linux or Windows from the official source. In the second method, the setup becomes super-quick because Parallels Desktop knows what you are downloading. As a result, you will have a ready-to-use virtual machine in a few minutes.

So, we’d say that it is effortless to get started with Parallels Desktop. This feature is helpful if you do not have experience with virtual machine software.

What We Loved

First and foremost, Parallels Desktop is incredibly easy to use. You do not need technical expertise from start to finish. But, if you have experience with virtualization and VMs, you can go all the way in. In addition, the app offers a significant level of customization options. In other words, it is safe to say that Parallels Desktop brings the best of both worlds.

But you should not judge Parallels Desktop based on ease of use. This virtual machine software does not hold back in terms of performance, especially if you have an Apple Silicon Mac. Regardless of the OS you are running; you can expect near-native performance on your Mac computer. It is almost like using the OS on a different device, but it is within your Mac.

image2 1

Parallels Desktop also comes with a suite of utilities aptly named Parallels Toolbox. This collection contains many valuable apps you may need while dealing with multiple Operating Systems. For instance, you can use one of the utilities to set up alarms, record the screen content, and set up a world clock. Of course, these options are in addition to the standard customization options available for every virtual machine.

We should also remember that Parallels Desktop for Mac is primarily designed to run Windows on Mac. It does this job so well that you may not need to purchase a separate Windows PC in the first place. You also get several excellent features like Coherence Mode, using which you can launch Windows apps right from the macOS dock.

What Could Be Better

While Parallels Desktop offers a seamless experience of creating and managing virtual machines, the tool is not perfect. For instance, you may notice that Parallels Desktop does not provide many features when you set up a Linux virtual machine. You cannot use the Coherence Mode or use the power utilities. You may come across additional limitations based on the Linux distro you are running.

We also noticed that ultimate customization options on Parallels Desktop are only available in the Business or Pro editions. For instance, if you want to explore advanced virtual networking tools or Visual Studio plug-ins for development, you must pay an additional price. It may not be a great option if you have a limited budget.

Availability and Pricing

Parallels Desktop for Mac is available for Intel-based and Apple Silicon-based Mac notebooks and desktops. It works great with the latest M2 Pro processors as well. However, you should not expect the best speeds using Intel-based Macs.

The Standard Edition of Parallels Desktop is available for $89.99 as a one-time payment. However, if you like the Pro or Business editions, you have to pay $119.99 and $149.99 per year, respectively. The company has some exciting offers for students and educators.

Pros
 • Easy setup.
 • Good performance (especially on Apple Silicon Macs).
 • Extensive customization options, pre-configured options for popular OS installations.
 • Suite of helpful utilities (Parallels Toolbox).
Cons
 • Limited free features.
 • Advanced customization requires a paid Pro or Business edition.
Our Take

Parallels Desktop is ideal for users who prioritize a user-friendly experience and want to run Windows on their Mac as smoothly as possible. It offers features like Coherence Mode, which lets you run Windows apps directly from the macOS dock, mimicking a native experience.

#2 VMware Fusion Player: maximum control over your VMs

VMware Fusion Player is another great virtual machine software for Mac, especially when you need better control over your VMs. As you may know, VMware is one of the trusted names in virtualization and related technologies. And VMware Fusion is currently the gold standard in the industry. However, VMware Fusion Player has been optimized for ease of use and better control without all the technical expertise.

Getting Started

Installing VMware Fusion Player on Mac is an easy task. You can download the installation file from VMware official website and finish the installation in a few minutes.

image3 1

However, unlike Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion Player does not offer many direct-installation options. It means you have to download the ISO file on your own and use the file to create the virtual machine. On the bright side, you can drag and drop the file into the VMware Fusion Player interface. Therefore, if you have some technical expertise with virtual machines, it may come in handy while dealing with this virtual machine software. Unfortunately, we also had to spend considerable time with this setup.

While we do not think the getting-started process is a dealbreaker, we would love to see something simpler, especially considering that VMware Fusion Player is made for a versatile audience.

What We Loved

One thing we love the most about VMware Fusion Player is the amount of control it offers. It does not matter which OS you virtualize; the app gives you great power. For instance, if you want to set up the virtual machine as an independent device in terms of the network. You also get better control over how the machine consumes resources. These features are helpful when running a virtual machine on your MacBook.

image4 1

Compared to Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion Player works great with a better variety of platforms. It is a great option to try little-known Linux distros or a fork of Chrome OS. Again, it is possible due to how much control a user gets in the process. When you start, VMware Fusion Player shows different options to create a custom virtual machine with the correct firmware, configuration, and other aspects.

For instance, if you want professional-level virtualization, you may want to install the Photon OS build from VMware. Fortunately, the app has a pre-built profile for these containers, making the whole ordeal much more effortless. Therefore, if you want to experiment with virtual machines and exclusive builds, we suggest you go with VMWare Fusion Player instead of other options.

We also loved that VMware Fusion Player remains easy to manage once you have set it up. For instance, it will automatically save the state of the virtual machine when you close the window. So you can resume the task you were doing. In addition, the ability to change almost every aspect of the VM, including network and removable media, is impressive.

What Could Be Better

We felt that VMware Fusion Player is not optimized for beginners. While we understand that the app has a professional design, it would not hurt the developer to include some direct-install options. It will help users get the latest OS version from the official source. In addition to saving time, such a feature can be a great path toward ensuring security.

Getting the maximum performance on Windows within Mac is also tricky when using VMware Fusion. We would love to see some optimization on this matter. In particular, saving and retrieving the status of the VM takes an extended amount of time compared to how Parallels Desktop does it. The previous problem, which puts the burden of finding the latest OS version on the user, does not help, either.

Availability and Pricing

VMware Fusion Player is available for macOS and Windows, among other platforms. You can download the app from the official website. As you can guess, this virtual machine software has complete support for M1 and M2 chips from the Apple Silicon series.

One great thing about VMware Fusion Player for Mac is its multiple licensing options. So, if you want to build a VM for non-commercial needs, you can get a free license from VMware, which also offers customer tech support. But if you want advanced features, premium plans start at $149.

Pros
 • Powerful customization options.
 • Good performance with various operating systems.
 • Supports a wider range of guest OS options compared to Parallels.
Cons
 • Less user-friendly setup compared to Parallels.
 • Might require some technical knowledge to use all features effectively.
 • free version has limited features.
Our Take

VMware Fusion is ideal for Developers, IT professionals, or users who need to run specific Linux distributions or custom OS builds. It provides granular control over resource allocation, networking configurations, and advanced features like nested virtualization.

#3 VirtualBox: free and lightweight virtual machine solution

Since its beginning, VirtualBox from Oracle has been a go-to virtual machine software for Mac. However, the app was a little late to bring native support for Apple Silicon chips. However, at the time of writing, VirtualBox works great with M1 and M2-powered MacBooks, iMacs, and Mac minis. So, we believe this free-to-use app should be one of the options worth your consideration.

Getting Started

Even though Oracle VirtualBox is not as advanced as other virtual machine software on this list, we found it incredibly easy to set up your virtual machine.

image5 1

As it happens, VirtualBox does a great job assisting you in the process. For instance, when you click the New button and select the ISO file, VirtualBox will identify the OS and fill in some sections for you. This feature can make things easier if you do not know how to set up a custom virtual machine on your Mac. However, you should not expect it to work with not-so-known operating system images. Overall, we would not say the setup process is too complex.

Once you have set up your virtual machine, VirtualBox will show everything on a single dashboard. It seems more straightforward than the other options we have tried.

What We Loved

We should start with how lightweight VirtualBox is compared to other virtual machine software, such as VMware Fusion or Parallels Desktop. It also means you do not have to worry about the app taking up much storage space or system resources. Rest assured, it keeps all the Operating System images you’ve installed via VirtualBox.

image6 1

Despite being simple and having a minimal software footprint, VirtualBox offers a lot of room for customizing the virtual machine. For instance, you can choose between an automated or manual installation. Naturally, you will find the second option more interesting if you want to customize how the virtual machine works. However, whenever there is an option for automated installation, VirtualBox will show the option.

Because it is designed for various users, VirtualBox offers additional controls from easy interfaces. So, if you want to send a keyboard command to the virtual machine, it will be easier. Of course, you might miss out on advanced features like the Coherence Mode in Parallels Desktop, but it is another story altogether. In short, for the most part, we loved how

What Could Be Better

Despite its simplicity, the UI of Oracle VirtualBox is old-school, to say the least. As a result, VirtualBox can be less intuitive than other apps for running virtual machines. Therefore, we think the app is due for a UI refresh shortly. We also noticed that the UI has been kept this way so people can manage multiple VMs from a single scene.

Performance boosting is also something we would like to see in VirtualBox. At this point, the app does not offer any option to improve the performance of the VMs. You should not expect any features like Coherence Mode or hybrid mode. In short, VirtualBox does not cut it if you want to create a VM that runs as well as the Mac or PC you are using.

Availability and Pricing

VirtualBox is available for the latest version of macOS, including Ventura. If you have an M1/M2 Mac, you need to download the beta build of VirtualBox. At the time of writing, the public build of VirtualBox does not have native support for Apple Silicon.

As far as pricing goes, Oracle VirtualBox is completely free to use. Therefore, you do not have to pay anything, even if you want to use the virtual machine software for commercial needs. However, despite being free, Oracle is known for on-time updates and community support.

Pros
 • Completely free and open-source.
 • Lightweight and easy to install.
 • Decent level of customization for basic needs.
Cons
 • Simpler interface compared to Parallels or VMware.
 • Might require some technical knowledge for setup.
 • May not offer the best performance for resource-intensive tasks.
Our Take

VirtualBox is ideal for casual users who need a basic and free option to run a single virtual machine for occasional use or testing purposes. It’s a good choice for users who prioritize saving storage space and system resources.

Alternatives to virtual machines

We have already looked at the best virtual machine software for Mac. However, you can also use the apps below to run Windows on Mac in different ways.

#4 CrossOver

CrossOver is an app that lets you run Windows apps on macOS without installing a Virtual Machine. It is an advantageous method when you do not want a complete system running inside your Mac. It is also available for Linux and ChromeOS. In case you are wondering, CrossOver works by creating a compatibility layer on top of macOS.

As you can guess, CrossOver works fine with Apple Silicon and Intel-based Macs. So, even if you have an old MacBook where you want to run Windows apps, there is a way. It is also impressive that CrossOver’s DirectX 12 has the potential to significantly improve compatibility for Windows games on Mac, and its package does not cost much compared to the other premium solutions. In short, if you need a way to run Windows without the complexities of emulators and licenses, you should check out CrossOver.

#5 Windows 365 Cloud PC

Windows 365 Cloud PC is one of the easier methods to run Windows on Mac. However, technically, you do not run a version of Windows on macOS. On the other hand, the system resources are on the cloud, and you basically stream the PC to your Mac. As you can guess, the biggest limitation of this method is that you always need a stable internet connection.

However, if you can manage a faster internet connection, you should try Microsoft 365 Cloud PC service. The service is from Microsoft, so you can avoid worries about compatibility issues. You can install almost anything on the cloud PC, browse the web, and even do software testing. However, this method is not cost-effective since you have to pay a monthly subscription fee.

#6 WineHQ

WineHQ is another compatibility layer that helps you run Windows apps on macOS, Linux, and a few other platforms. Because it is designed to run apps primarily, you do not have to worry about running the VM in the first place. Even though the system is not perfect, you will not have trouble running popular Windows apps on your Mac.

On the bright side, WineHQ is not an abandoned project. It receives regular updates from developers, thanks to the powerful community behind it. Impressive enough, you can use WineHQ to play Windows-based games on your Mac. On top of all these, the app is completely free to use and open source. However, it may not be a suitable option for heavy-duty virtualization needs.

#7 UTM for Mac

UTM is a free and open-source virtual machine software for Mac. It allows you to run various operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and macOS, on your Mac using virtualization or emulation. Virtualization provides better performance, while emulation allows you to run older or incompatible operating systems.

UTM also offers a gallery with pre-built virtual machines for popular operating systems, making it easy to get started quickly. While UTM may not be as feature-rich or performant as paid options like Parallels Desktop, it’s a great free alternative for basic virtualization needs.

#8 Apple Boot Camp

Boot Camp happens to be the last option that you should try for running Windows on Mac. As you may know, Boot Camp is designed to set up a dual-boot system of macOS and Windows. However, it means you have to restart your MacBook, iMac, or Mac mini to launch Windows. Therefore, it is not a convenient option if you need an integrated workflow.

The compatibility status of Boot Camp is also questionable to an extent. For instance, it doesn’t work on the new Apple silicon Macs (that is, M-series Macs), and there is official support for installing Windows 10 via Boot Camp, but we are unsure of what happens with Windows 11. On the bright side, setting up Windows or Linux on your Mac using Boot Camp does not cause extra. You also get a few benefits because the system is made by Apple.

FAQs

The post Finding The Best Mac Disk Space Analyzer (Paid and Free) first appeared on TheSweetBits.

If you have used Mac for a long time, you’d have encountered a common problem – a lack of free disk space.

You try to figure out what’s taking up your disk space by clicking the Apple logo on the top-left of the screen, selecting About This Mac, and hitting the Storage tab. You will get the example screenshot above.

Why does my Mac system require so much space?

What does it contain? Is it safe to clean some of those system files?

And how do I regain more space to store all my projects, movies or something even bigger?

There are special Mac cleaner utilities designed to help to easily clear disk space. But before cleaning, it is important to use a disk analyzer tool to manage your disk space usage and find out what is taking up the most HD space.

The best Mac disk space analyzer apps

Why disk analyzer matters

Mysteriously Disappearing Storage Space. Sometimes, you cannot know what is actually consuming the storage space. Regardless that you will get the ‘Storage Full’ message while copying files. This has been a serious problem for macOS users ever since.

The APFS Snapshot Feature is Buggy. When you make TimeMachine backups or snapshots, it gets stored in your storage drive. Neither Finder nor ‘About This Mac’ can identify this and just label the snapshot with the System category, making it massive and prone to issues.

The In-built Storage Management is Ineffective. In case you didn’t know, macOS has an in-built storage management module. This should show you the files and folders taking up more storage space. However, it’s ineffective if you want to know the potential of free space in the device. You cannot deal with deep system files either.
macOS in built

macOS System Requires More Space. Compared to Windows or Linux, the macOS system needs more space for the core files. When you install a number of apps, this becomes insane. So, at the end of the day, you would want to know where free space is possible and clear things up.

These are just some of the most common reasons you should use a disk analyzer for Mac. Just like other apps, there are many macOS disk analyzers as well. So, choosing one would be tough. But, don’t worry, we’ve got it covered for you.

How to choose the right disk analyzer

We had prioritized our criteria while choosing a good space analyzer app from the big lot.

Performance is, undoubtedly, the first concern. We needed a tool that can go deep into your Mac and find out what can be deleted. This requires some serious algorithms and power from the developing part. We’re not looking for any kind of gimmicks.

Freeing up disk space is no rocket science. So, a disk analyzer tool should be easy to use as well. So, as power-packed and efficient as it may be, we needed a simple interface as well. This means that the disk analyzers you find here will be quite easy to use.

Diversity is also assured. We have covered different types of disk usage analyzers for Mac. Some let you clear the disk space based on while others represent the condition quite beautifully. At the same time, there some hybrid choices too.

To put together this list, we’ve checked out almost 20 different Mac disk space analyzers. Some were tiny but amazing tools, helping us identify and remove hidden space hogs with ease. Others, however, promised productivity features but made it difficult to understand where your storage was actually being used.

To test things, we downloaded and put each app through its paces with multiple analysis sessions, testing their ability to scan different types of files (personal documents, system files, large files), and assessing their user-friendliness. (Read the full rundown of how we select tools to feature on TheSweetBits blog.) After more than four hours of testing, here are the best Mac storage space analyzer utilities around.

The built-in tool you already have: Finder

The simplest and easiest way to check your storage space on your Mac is through using Finder or Disk Storage. It provides decent info about the total storage and what files are stored. However, it isn’t perfect and would only be perfect for basic tasks.

Click on the “Apple” menu and then on the “About This Mac” option.

Next, click on the “Storage” tab, and you should see the storage drive and how much space you have available.

disk utility

You can also use Disk Utility. It is the perfect in-built tool as you can access it quickly enough, and you don’t have to wait for the scan process like other apps. You can also see the storage capacity on a graph, but the information on the spread is pretty limited.

You can access Disk Utility by going into Finder and scrolling down to the bottom section, where you will find a tab named “Utility” click on it and then look for Disk Utility and run it. You should see a pop-up similar to the screenshot above.

The best for effective analysis: DaisyDisk

DaisyDisk is a dedicated disk usage analyzer, made for Mac. A visual of disk usage helps you understand how the files and folders behave in relation to the available space. It also promises to bring back storage space to your Mac. Compared to the other methods of storage upgrades and device upgrades, DaisyDisk is pretty economical as well.

DaisyDisk has a simple, intuitive yet productive user-interface. As we said earlier, DaisyDisk will be showing you a perfect representation of storage space consumption. You will know what is taking up the space and what is not. Once you have scanned, you will see a window like shown below. It provides a diagram-based representation of storage space distribution.

DaisyDisk Main

Cloud storage scanning support – This is a new feature with the latest iteration of DaisyDisk, and it allows you to scan files on your cloud storage. It works with iCloud, Google Drive, and others to scan through all your files and recommend what you should delete or remove. While it won’t directly impact your physical drive, it would make your data storage much neater overall.

Real-time representation of storage data – All your storage space would be visible in a circular graph structure or a pie chart that makes browsing through all your files easy and quick.

Compatibility with Apple Silicon – It is also compatible with Apple’s latest M1 Silicon chips, so you don’t have to worry about bugs or random errors, and you’ll be able to enjoy the full performance of the newer devices.

Easy to use and supports many devices – Finally, DaisyDisk is super easy to use with a one-click tool that can scan across all your files, and it also supports the latest and the oldest Macs without issues.

As we said earlier, DaisyDisk is available for Mac only. You can download the program from the official website of DaisyDisk or the Mac App Store. If you have a Mac running OS X 10.10 or later, you can use DaisyDisk without worries. It should be noted that the program has an incredibly lower footprint.

DaisyDisk is priced at a simple tag of $9.99. Compared to the amount of money you would otherwise spend — purchasing a USB drive or HDD, for instance —, it’s an awesome thing. However, DaisyDisk offers a limited free trial, in which you can scan your disks but cannot delete them.

In the right world, you don’t have to think twice before spending $9.99 for DaisyDisk. It’s a worthwhile purchase that will help you in the time to come. So that you know, DaisyDisk is being used by the commons and IT professionals across the globe.

Alternative: WhatSize

Of course, we believe in fair competition and unbiased comparison. Out of the 15+ disk analyzer tools we’ve considered for the guide, the following ones should be mentioned as worthy competitors. Among those, WhatSize is a definite alternative to DaisyDisk that lets you visualize the file system usage and clean up the Mac.

The good things first, WhatSize seems quite advanced in the first look. You have an option to customize the view and choose options like Pie Chart or Table.

WhatSize 1

Easy Cleaning Process. WhatSize comes with an inbuilt cleaning tool that you can quickly use to get rid of trash files, caches, or other large files.

Quickly Find Duplicate Files. WhatSize scan also works with duplicate files. So, when you run a scan, delete all the duplicate files to bring some available space to work on.

As it happens, WhatSize offers a bunch of features, but most of them are hard to master. We also find that it is not at all intuitive. You would need a few days to master how to use WhatSize for Mac. Coming to the pricing aspect, WhatSize is priced at $14.99, which is high. As we said earlier, the cleaning features in the program aren’t that effective either.

So, you should go for WhatSize only if you can handle such a complex tool at the end of the day. We also believe that the app is overpriced compared to the features of DaisyDisk, which sells for $10.

The best for analyzing and cleaning: CleanMyMac

CleanMyMac goes beyond simple disk space analysis. It’s a comprehensive cleaning suite that offers a powerful combination of analysis, optimization, and cleaning tools. Here’s what sets it apart:

cmm storage

Visual Representation: The intuitive interface provides a clear picture of your disk usage with detailed breakdowns by category (e.g., system files, applications, photos) and even visualizes usage with pie charts.

Storage Monitoring Tool: offers an in-depth view of disk usage, helpingyou identify large files, duplicates, and files hidden in macOS data categories. This allows you to stay informed about your disk usage and take action before space becomes a critical issue.

CleanMyMac Menu: adds a real-time monitoring feature that tracks system health indicators like CPU usage, memory availability, and storage levels, offering alerts for low space and suggesting cleanup actions. Simply open the CleanMyMac Menu and click the disk monitor. On top of the detailed menu, you’ll see which file types are taking up your disk space and how much is still available.

Dropbox Integration: Keep track of your Dropbox storage directly within CleanMyMac. The app securely connects to your Dropbox account to provide real-time usage information, helping you manage your cloud storage effectively.

You can download CleanMyMac for $39.95 per year. It also comes with a trial version that is worth using for free. It also has a one-time purchase which would cost you around $80-90 for a lifetime subscription.

Alternative: DiskDiet

Disk Diet is compact version compared to CleanMyMac X or the competitors above. Just like the competitors, despite its lean and light form, it qualifies as a dedicated tool that will analyze your Mac and clean up storage space — automatically. You don’t have to go and find what is taking up the space. Instead, the program will analyze the device and find potential areas like Trash, Cache, Application Logs, etc.

Of course, some downsides should be mentioned. First of all, you don’t get a clear picture of storage space consumption. You only know that a certain amount of storage space can be cleared. And, it should be noted that Disk Diet does not let you customize anything. You can select from extra options like old iOS Updates and Downloads, but that’s it.

Disk Diet 1

One-click Performance Optimization. We recommend Disk Diet for only those who have less time to save storage space. It should be noted that the program is quite straightforward. You don’t have to deal with diagrams or anything whatsoever. It just wants you to click the Diet button and put the HDD on a space-consumption diet. Is it effective? Yes, it is, but it’s your take.

Clean Junk and Trash Files with ease. You can also use it to clean junk and trash files. The initial scan took less than a minute to complete, and the clean-up tool took around 3-4 minutes to clean everything.

Instant scans for large and unused files. As soon as you run the app, it starts scanning through all your files to provide instant and seamless information about your storage drive.

Disk Diet is also a paid Mac app, coming with a price tag of $9. It should be noted that DaisyDisk, which has the same price tag, does more than what it does. It offers a limited free trial that lets you clear 500MB max.

The best for free analysis: GrandPerspective

GrandPerspective is the best option when you want a graphical representation of storage space distribution on your Mac. It’s a completely free and open-source program that you can download without worries. The best part is that, unlike many free tools out there, GrandPerspective is regularly updated.

grandperspective 1

However, the core idea behind GrandPerspective hasn’t changed for the past few years. When you open the tool and scan a specific folder, you will see a box-based representation of storage space. You can click on the boxes to open, quick look, or delete the files to save space. GrandPerspective doesn’t offer a dedicated cleaning option, unlike the tools above.

We wouldn’t say that GrandPerspective has the most intuitive UI, but it’s not hard either. When you click on a box, you can see the file’s path, which is great. You will have to navigate again to find and delete the file better. Of course, you should consider that GrandPerspective wants you to pay nothing for using these features.

GrandPerspective becomes the go-to choice when you don’t want to spend money on disk analyzer tools. Of course, you will miss some useful features and tools by doing so.

Alternative: Disk Inventory X

Another free disk space analyzer, Disk Inventory X, has a tab on the left that shows you all the folders that occupy the maximum storage. However, the UI and overall distribution graph can feel a little cluttered.

disk inventory

The panel on the right shows you a very technical graph of all the allocated storage space. So, it won’t be very clear for beginners. It will take time to learn, but everything will get easier once you know the basics.

You can look at the allocation structure on the right and figure out which apps or files are using the most amount of storage, and then finally delete or transfer them to clean up your storage drive for some extra space.

Stay on top of your Mac’s free space

Choose any of the tools we’ve covered, and you can save GBs of space in your hard drive. However, you must choose an effective, safe, and trustworthy program — just like the top pick.

In DaisyDisk, you would not have to worry about system errors or unexpected crashes. You also have an intuitive way to deal with storage data representation. So, make sure you have that disk analysis tool to enrich your Mac.

However, if you’re more of a technical guy and want to deep dive into the nitty-gritty for a truly unique experience, then I would recommend using GrandPerspective for the flexibility and power it provides.

With that said, we have reached the end of today’s guide and hope you have an easy time cleaning the junk off your storage drive. For more help, make sure to check our related guides.

Best Mac System Monitor Apps for Performance Checking https://thesweetbits.com/best-mac-system-monitor/ Wed, 20 Mar 2024 03:05:33 +0000 https://thesweetbits.com/?p=4050 As a Mac geek, I have been testing some system monitoring tools, and here're my favorites.

The post Best Mac System Monitor Apps for Performance Checking first appeared on TheSweetBits.

Macs are powerful devices, and with the introduction of the custom Apple silicon M1/M2/M3 Macs and MacBooks, it has become more imperative that you manage the background apps and monitor power consumption.

Don’t get us wrong, the M1/M2/M3 SOC is fast and is the fastest of the chips that we’ve ever seen, but that doesn’t mean that you should leave everything to the computer and not do anything as it will consistently deliver poor results and keep on getting slower over time. However, using a system monitor brings a lot of benefits, and they are:

 • In-depth monitoring of apps and processes.
 • Maintaining a smooth user experience.
 • Helps terminate unresponsive and unwanted tasks and applications.

Are you currently taking full advantage of all the techy help you can get?

If you are not sure, I’m glad you are here. As a Mac geek, I have been testing some system monitoring tools on my MacBook Air M2 13-inch running macOS Sonoma, and I’m happy to share my favorites with you.

The best Mac system monitor apps

Understanding Mac’s Activity Monitor

Your Mac comes with a built-in system monitoring application known as Activity Monitor. It is excellent for closing unresponsive applications and seeing real-time CPU, Network, Disk status or Energy usage. So, how do you access the Activity Monitor? – Follow the steps below to get the activity monitor running for you.

 • Firstly, Go to your “Applications” folder and then to the “Utility” folder.
 • Then double-click on the “Activity Monitor”, which will bring up a window.
 • This is the Activity Monitor app, and here you’ll see five tabs and a list of entries that changes every few seconds. The Tabs contain the following information – CPU, Memory, Energy, Disk Usage and Network.

Note: The Activity Monitor shows you real-time usage and power consumption. It also allows you to close and terminate all unresponsive tasks or tasks, hogging up too much performance.

activity monitor

Is the built-in Activity Monitor good enough?

The Activity Monitor is a decent app from Apple and is ideally suited to beginners. However, if you want to have extra control over what you’re doing and the processes running, you would have to opt for the third-party solutions listed below.

The Activity monitor helps you by displaying the main processes and the percentage load on the CPU and GPU. It can also force-quit any unresponsive application and help recover your Mac to a normal running state. However, there are many features and information that it misses or hides due to Apple’s clutter-free and simple design idealogy. Hence, third-party applications are better alternatives for the program.

Therefore, the built-in Activity is popular with beginners and casual users, while professionals use 3rd-party apps with more functionality and readily available data.

Best 3rd-party Mac performance monitor tools

To ensure that you receive only verified information, I do the following:

I have tested all the products covered in this article. When testing products, I compare all key parameters, including performance, customization options, widgets, and other significant features. (Read the full rundown of how we select tools to feature on TheSweetBits blog.) Based on our testing sessions, here are my top favorites.

iStat Menus – best for most users

Pricing: Free for seven days and then a $9.99 per month Setapp subscription, or you can purchase it for $14.15 and can be upgraded for $11.79 (includes six months of weather data)

iStatsMenu1

iStat Menus is genuinely outstanding and delivers one of the best user experiences possible. It works by recognizing all apps and integrating the charts in the menu bar on top of your Mac to access the numbers quickly. It is also lightweight and runs in the background with zero to no performance hit.

Here is the complete list of items that iStat Menus keep track of and help monitor:

Finally, iStat Menus also provides many customization options for what notifications you want to receive. The notification feature allows you to have reports every time your Mac hits a specific condition or issue. For example, it helps you by notifying if your Mac heats up, overuses the CPU, or saturates the memory with background apps.

It also features a built-in weather information widget to help you monitor your area’s current and upcoming weather conditions. However, some of the weather tool features are locked behind a paid upgrade which is a bummer considering it is handy.

Pros and Cons of using iStat Menus

Pros

 • It is feature-rich and can help you monitor a lot of stuff at once
 • It has a menu integration system that displays data directly on every screen
 • You can also set custom notifications, and it has a lot of customization settings for personalization

About the Sensei Monitor

Once you have installed the app, you can access the Monitor feature from the left menu bar. A simple click on the Monitor tab will launch the interface on the right-hand side of the screen.

As you can see, the area is split into two sections: CPU and Widgets. This section is quite interactive and expansive. You can use it to monitor and track different aspects of your macOS device. Featuring a broad range of metrics ranging from software to hardware, it is built to give you powerful insights into the performance and health of your Intel or Apple Silicon Mac in real time.

Storage/CPU/Memory

In this section, you can get an overview of how the storage space on your Mac is being used. For instance, you can get to know the health and temperature of your Mac’s SSD. There is also a chart that shows you what is taking up the storage space.

Sensei also gives you insights about the RAM and CPU. You can also see the amount of pressure on the RAM, along with the top consumers. There is also an option to immediately quit the apps that consume a lot of resources.

When it comes to CPU stats, you can find one chart that tells you about CPU consumption. Right below, you can track the system uptime and temperature of the CPU. As we saw in the case of memory, the CPU pane will also show top consumers. And you can quit the apps from the same menu.

Battery/Cooling

Last but not least, the Battery/Cooling section of Sensei will provide you with all the basic details. For instance, you can view fan speed, sensor temperatures, even detect a faulty or failing battery in advance. There is also a way to know the current percentage and the number of charge cycles.

Pros and Cons of using Sensei

Pros

 • Intuitive and effortless to use
 • Integrates options for performance-boosting
 • Provides an overview of the system

Cons

 • It does not offer scheduling features

In short, Sensei is a great option if you need actionable monitoring data. Instead of giving you a lot of raw data, Sensei integrates optimization with the app. So, in a single click, you can free up RAM, cut down CPU usage, and improve storage space on your Mac.

In Short, iStatistica Pro is a great activity monitor app that helps you keep track of all the data and apps on your device. It also comes with an easy-to-use widget that integrates well with your system for quicker management and impressive performance boosts. Hence, making it perfect for people that look for convenience and an overall better UI design.

XRG for Mac – best for free performance monitoring

Talking about open sources, XRG for Mac is a functional system monitor tool that you could try if you do want to monitor your Mac’s performance for free.

Yes, it is free to use and comes with almost all the features that a performance monitoring app should have. This app lets you monitor your CPU and GPU activity, memory usage, machine temperature, battery status, network activity, disk I/O, stock market data, and current weather.

There are also a handful of settings that you can customize to personalize your experience with this app, change units and modify the way data and graphs are displayed.

However, the way the numbers are displayed on it can get cluttered and cannot be compared to the visual aesthetics of iStat Menus, and it could take a while for you to figure things out with this app.

Nonetheless, it is a must-have if you are looking for a free tool to monitor your Mac’s performance and don’t mind spending some time figuring out the interface.

Other alternatives

In addition to the picks above, I tested a number of other tools that offer performance checking solutions. For example:

App Tamer ($14.95) – helps you tame the apps that hog your CPU. It’s a lightweight menu bar utility with the ability to detect the average percentage of your processor(s) being used by each app or access a graphical history of your CPU usage.

Monit (free) – A versatile open-source app that tracks various system metrics, including temperature, network activity, CPU, and battery. It offers a customizable interface and unobtrusive monitoring. Unfortunately, Monit is not compatible with macOS Big Sur or Monterey, which may be a deal-breaker for many users.

coconutBattery (free) – This basic app has been around the battery monitoring space since 2005 and does a fine job displaying the health of your Mac’s battery. It also comes with a companion app for your iPhone and iPad to track and manage their batteries as well. However, it is strictly a battery-monitoring app and cannot work as a fully functional activity manager.

MenuBar Stats ($4.99) – MenuBar Stats helps you monitor the performance of your Mac in a clean, sleek and straightforward interface. It has been ‘completely re-written from the ground’ and comes with modules such as CPU, disk, network, Bluetooth, fan, and more. Each of these modules can be accessed in the menu bar and/or the notification center of your Mac OS.

SMART Utility ($25) – All new Macs come with faster SSDs with high data transfer speeds and fantastic read and write rates, sometimes leading to drive management issues. SMART Utility is built to keep track of the health of all your drives and to diagnose any problem that may arise. It can also get information such as drive temperature, capacity, and health, making it great for Disk Utility software.

AlDente (free) – Finally, take a look at AlDente, which looks like a tiny yet powerful charge limiter app for MacBooks. Its Pro version offers advanced features like heat protection and custom charging limits, ensuring optimal battery health and longevity. By preventing overheating and limiting excessive charging, you can extend the lifespan of your MacBook battery.

Loking for a cleaner for your PC/Mac? Are you not sure if CCleaner is the way to go? I’ll help you figure that out in the next couple of minutes.

CCleaner is a PC cleaner tool that has been around for more than 15 years now. However, back in 2017, the platform faced negative consequences throughout the year. But is CCleaner safe to use in 2024?

Well, make sure you stick till the end so you don’t miss out on any point that might help you make a decision about CCleaner.

CCleaner issues: a brief history

If you don’t know, CCleaner has faced unpleasant scenarios several times. When Avast acquired the company back in 2017, the tool got hacked twice. Even Microsoft flagged several registry cleaning utilities that included the CCleaner Registry Cleaner as well.

Allegations around CCleaner weren’t over there. CCleaner, a malware, started featuring headlines for negative reasons as it could gather sensitive data and forward the same to a third-party US-based server.

All this resulted in the tool getting tagged as a potentially unwanted application. However, it has come a long way since then and is probably at its strongest point.

Is CCleaner safe now in 2024?

The fact that CCleaner has seen infringements a couple of times, or maybe more, positions its level of safety under serious questionnaires. The versions that reported issues were 5.33.6162 and 1.07.3191, and the systems majorly under impact were the 32-bit Windows-powered ones only.

Later though, subsequent updates promised efforts to address all sorts of cases revolving around the Trojans. The good news is that recent testimonials featured on Trustpilot justified that the promises were indeed kept. Moreover, most reviews posted on the CCleaner platform over the last 1 year reflect that the tool is safe to rely on.

The situation has fairly brightened up for CCleaner recently. With no negative reports being bagged from the past one-year, the tool seems to have started living up to the 13 years of solid reputation.

Also, downloading and installing CCleaner on your system is no big deal. In fact, if you know how to proceed, it won’t take more than 5 minutes to set everything up. Just download the “setup file” and install it on your device.

What’s CCleaner like in 2024?

Until this point, you’ve most probably figured out that CCleaner is an all-in-one utility that helps keep your computer free from useless files. No doubt there are numerous other software pieces available that promise something that sits along similar lines. However, CCleaner is promisingly different.

In case you’re wondering what drives CCleaner to stand apart from the rest, the following section will answer exactly that.

User-Friendly Interface

Admit it! No matter how technically sound you’re, encountering a rather complex scene right after launching an app won’t leave a pleasing mark. CCleaner seamlessly tackles the situation with its super-flexible interface.

To top that, CCleaner’s interface wonderfully manages to fit in all the crucial optimization oriented action-buttons at the convenient possible position.

Performance Optimizer

In the latest CCleaner 6, the app adds a new feature – Performance Optimizer, it attempts to scan and put all inactive programs chewing up your PC’s resources to sleep to help optimize your PC performance, but it smartly re-enables the apps as soon as you need them.

First, a quick scan returns a list of programs sorted by the impact to the PC’s performance according to CCleaner’s algorithm. On our test system, 10 programs were identified by Performance Optimizer. Four of them, Anydesk, Microsoft OneDrive, Microsoft Excel 2019 and Wondershare MobileTrans, were listed as having a high impact on the performance. The remaining 6 programs were listed with a low impact.

Performance

Next, the program gives you the option to put them to sleep. Here be careful with any apps that should be running in the background all the time. For example, you may use Microsoft OneDrive to continually back up files, in which case you would not put this app into sleep mode.

CCleaner’s Performance Optimizer looks like a useful tool to speed up PCs that are slowing down. According to the developers, this function can deliver up to 30% more battery life and up to 34% more performance on both new and old PCs.

Software Updater

The software updater tool is enhanced and upgraded in the newer version –v6.21.10918. While the changes aren’t significant, there is a noticeable change in the interface and an updated compatibility with newer programs.

ccleaner updater

To test the changes, I tested the updated tool on our test device and found new software that wasn’t displayed in the other older versions. Regarding the update process, the rest felt normal, and everything went well without delays or restrictions.

Robust Registry Cleaner

Dealing with an unworthy extension of unused files located in the system registry is indeed a hefty task, at least for many. The list of entries sitting inside the Windows registry comprises all sorts of corrupted files, shortcut messages, and more.

Registry

The fact that you can’t just head over, locate each, and delete them simultaneously complicates the situation. This is when CCleaner’s Registry Cleaner feature clicks in. The feature operates in a semi-automatic mode where it engages in collecting all the deletable records first, followed by letting you decide the ultimate fate.

The issues caused by detrimental entries in the Windows registry folder are no stranger. Thankfully, CCleaner does take the responsibility of helping users cruise out of trouble pretty efficiently and logically.

Enhanced Cleaning Tools

At the end of the day, if you tend to install CCleaner, the majority of the time, you’d be employing it to help your system get rid of garbage files. Now, without any doubt, the utility serves pretty well, which is why the cleaner feature is among the most recognized ones.

Unlike most of the utilities, the cleaning functionality of CCleaner explores a deeper dimension. It’s so deep that if I start serving them one by one on your plate, you might start to feel drowsy. To avoid that from happening, I’ve sectioned the cleaner features in the following four segments.

Clean

 • Custom Cleaner: It is a free-for-all feature that enables users to choose and delete junk sitting on their systems easily. Everything from internet cache, browsing history, temporary files, and more can be seamlessly eliminated with no hassle whatsoever.
 • Deep Cleaner: Just as it is named, the deep cleaning feature lets you find and eliminate unwanted files throughout the system. However, unlike Custom Cleaner, Deep Cleaner needs users to own the Pro edition.
 • Scheduled Cleaner: This is again a feature exclusive for licensed users. It is a great utility for those who wish to schedule and run system cleaning. This offers a convenient way to check and remove junk and ensures restricting unwanted files from accumulating.
 • Smart Cleaner: It is a paid upgrade to the already mentioned Custom Cleaner feature. It loads up with brilliant functionalities that aid users in making the system monitoring process a breeze. Among many, one that stood out for me was the Automatic Browser Cleaning. I know getting rid of browser history isn’t a challenging task, but there is no denying that we often tend to ignore that.
Driver Updater

Again, a premium feature that ensures your computer’s drivers are updated. It is essential for you to keep your PC drivers updated as they help you be secure, remove bugs/errors and even improve performance.

Driver

Duplicate Finder

Duplicate files aren’t troubling anymore as CCleaner brings this tool that can filter your drives and find all the annoying duplicate files. It can even look for similar-looking photos and help you delete the ones you don’t need.

PC Health Check

CCleaner’s comes with a new PC Health Check tool that analyzes your PC and recommends all necessary fixes. It can automatically optimize and update your PC to perform better and is more secure.

Health

Some Other Handy Features

In addition to the well-optimized cleaning setup and convenient user interface, CCleaner is home to several minor but handy elements. Here are a few of them worth knowing about:

Tools

 • Drive Wiper: This feature lets you wipe off all the deleted files and free the concerned drive(s)
 • Large File Finder: With this tool, you can effortlessly list the files whose weight rests on the heavier end.
 • Disk Analyzer: It scans and reveals information on the files taking up space in your system.
 • Uninstaller: A one-click utility that helps repair, rename, and uninstall desired apps.
 • Task Killer: A blessing for RAM-concise systems as it helps free up RAM by simply stopping pre-running tasks and cleaning some associated memory.
 • Startup Manager: Trouble reliever for those who are concerned with automatic startups. This tool allows you to choose the programs that should or should not run as soon as the computer boots up.
 • System Restore Manager: Designed to allow users to alter the status of scheduled checkpoints.

CCleaner 2024: things that could be better

Although everything associated with CCleaner seems to be perfect, some elements still need attention. Firstly, the Large File Finder is an exclusive feature for Mac platforms, thus leaving Window’s users a bit disappointed. Well, you might not find many complaints about that, but the developers should start considering the Windows side as well.

One more thing that puts me off is the efficiency of the Quick Scan feature. I understand that the very tool is made available for all and can’t be as good as the deep scan. Sadly, nothing about this feature feels good. Everyone deserves better, if only by a small margin. What I’m trying to say is that if anyone tends to use the Quick Scan, he or she must get something out of it.

CCleaner for Mac: is it as good as the Windows version

The query whether CCleaner for Mac is as good as the Windows version isn’t that concerning when you’re dealing with the basic (free) version. However, if you opt to buy the services, there are a few things to consider.

Without any doubt, the premium CCleaner software for Mac packs some super-efficient tools, like Real-time Monitoring, a Large File Finder tool, Automatic Updating, and more. But compared to what the Windows version has to offer, Mac users seem to run a bit unlucky. Also, the fact that the software costs a couple of dollars more, there is indeed a genuine reason for disappointment.

That’s everything you need to know about CCleaner. I’ve uncovered the tool and discussed the abilities and the disabilities from possible vivid angles. A quick reading session will help you settle whether CCleaner is worth your time or not.

Is CCleaner 2024 worth using?

The answer is a resounding yes. Thanks to everything that CCleaner packs in, the tool is more worth keeping than just giving it a single try. I won’t say CCleaner is perfect from every dimension, or it is something revolutionary, but it is genuinely a tool that can aid your system in a better way.

Pros

 • Packs fascinating features
 • Super-friendly user interface
 • Availability of free license

Cons

 • The Quick Scan feature isn’t that efficient
 • Pricing rests a nit on the higher end
 • No iOS version is available as yet.

Pricing

The pricing for CCleaner starts at $0. Yes, you read that right. Users can avail free trial that neither requires email confirmation nor payment information. However, you can still get the premium subscription at $24.95/year.

Note: the CCleaner Spring Sale is now ON! Click here to get CCleaner Pro or Pro Plus for HALF PRICE (50% off).

Verdict

Well, CCleaner isn’t cheap. However, the amount of utility it loads justifies the price tag to a considerable extent. Also, free usability is a plus, but encountering all sorts of restrictions is obvious.

Offering all of the foundational features, CCleaner free version brings you Basic Heath Check, the renowned Registry Cleaner, a Custom Clean feature, Duplicate Finder, and plenty more disk and system management features that make it a formidable tool. However, the CCleaner Pro version brings along Scheduled Cleaning, Advanced Health Check feature, a built-in Driver Updater, Deep Clean tool, and plenty more, making it worth the extra bucks.

It provides great value for all PC and Mac users and helps improve the overall experience of users. So, I suggest you download the CCleaner and get it a free trial.

Often we face issues regarding our Windows PC getting slower over time, and the ultimate solution we end up making is to replace it with a new one. But that’s not the only solution that is left for us to take.

The main cause behind this might be the piling up of unwanted trash in our devices, including junk files and other unimportant data and apps. As a result, this maximizes the RAM’s storage space, making the OS pretty slow and late to respond.

With that being said, this issue can be easily solved using a responsive UI. This will help to clean your device and to optimize the OS for a smooth experience in the future. Moreover, this will help you to save money without utilizing it on a new PC.

But to do this process one by one is time-consuming. And that is where a PC Optimizer tool comes and the latest in the market is the new IObit Advanced SystemCare Pro 17. It has all the essential features you look for in a PC Optimizer tool and some features that have been improved with the new version.

Without further delay, let us discuss in depth about this app and its unique features to help improve the functioning of your PC.

The what’s new

IObit’s new Advanced SystemCare Pro 17 is your ultimate rescue from a Windows PC that slows down your workflow. The new version has been introduced with excellent improvements and a few additional features for the users to have a great experience with the app. The following is an overview of the new and improved features introduced with the Advanced SystemCare Pro 17.

AI Mode – The new version comes with an AI mode that helps to clean your PC thoroughly depending on the PC’S performance status and optimization habits. Further, it detects any risky files and data in your device and immediately removes them, making your PC perform faster.

Firewall Protection – With the increase in cyber threats and crimes, protecting your data and information has become essential. Securing your system with technologies that help you detect these online risks is necessary. A firewall is a fantastic example of such a technology. The advanced SystemCare Pro comes with this and protects your system and data by keeping the Firewall running.

Software Health – Updating the several softwares and services you constantly use on your PC is necessary for it to function well in the long run. Updating also helps to protect your PC from vulnerable situations that can enable attackers to use it for various cyber threats. The new Advanced SystemCare Pro can be used to update all your programs. It will ensure that your system works smoothly and is risk-free from malicious threats.

Real-time Tuneup – As we mentioned in the introduction, one of the main reasons for our PC to slow down is not having enough free space in your RAM. Therefore, optimizing memory and space by cleaning and removing unwanted files is essential. With Advanced SystemCare Pro, you can monitor the complete performance of your PC in real-time and automatically release more disk space and RAM for better use.

Startup Optimization – This feature ensures you experience a faster startup by controlling the programs launched at the startup. By disabling the unwanted apps that are launched during the startup process, your device can have a startup process that is 200% faster than before. The lastest version has a significant amount of improvement in the Startup Manage Database. Subsequently, this will increase the speed of the startup base by at least 45% compared to the last version.

The workflow

Advanced SystemCare Pro finds different issues in your PC and fixes them within minutes. Every process regarding this app is simple and automatic. When you consider all the apps used for cleaning PCs, Advanced SystemCare Pro has the easiest and quickest installation with a clean, modern interface. You can download the setup file from the official website of IObit.

Home

The one thing to be noted about the new version is that it is almost 10 MB larger than the file size of the PRO 15 version. That means the file size is around 48 MB but it only took me a few minutes to complete the installation, so it wasn’t a problem. It is also great that even though the app has a lot of tools, it will never slow your PC, regardless of the number of features you decide to use.

You can download any of the features you like and try for a quick scan. Now you should be able to further do your work smoothly without facing any issues. Each tool with a feature has a mouse-hover explanation about its functions. This lets you know their functions and uses.

Advanced SystemCare Pro contains a desktop widget showing your PC’s CPU and RAM usage. You can also get a scanning report after you proceed to scan. This will further enhance your experience and help you figure out which issues must be tackled first and given the most priority.

My scan took around 30 minutes to finish, and I was presented with a list of issues that should be resolved. I immediately went through the “Junk files” and deleted all unwanted files. Then I click the “Fix” button to remove these files from my PC. This process takes around 5-10 minutes and could be a little longer, depending on the size and number of junk files that should be removed. Once this process is completed, the app gives you an overall view of the fixes it has done and the amount of data it could save.

The features we love

Many useful Optimization features are available with the new IObit Advanced Systemcare Pro 17. It is not possible to list every one of these features. Therefore we will go through the most used and beneficial features. These features are listed on the left side panel of the app and can be accessed easily within a few clicks.

Speed up tool

This is the section that includes different features that help to improve and maximize the speed of your system. As we discussed earlier, features such as Startup Optimizer and Real-time Tuneup can be found in this section. Startup Optimizer helps to manage the Startup items. It disables unwanted apps during the process, and Real-time Tuneup makes sure to optimize the performance of your PC by introducing Performance Monitor and Auto RAM Clean.

SpeedUp

Turbo Boost is another tool that can remove unwanted services by turning it on for regular monitoring of the system’s performance. Hardware Accelerator can update the device drivers, and App/Extension Cleaner is to remove malicious extensions from the browsers you use. There is also an option called More Optimization Tools, which includes advanced features such as Smart RAM and Internet Booster. These features improve your device’s overall speed and performance.

Protection tool

Many improvements are specially made in this section with the Advanced SystemCare Pro 17 version. The three primary protection features are System Protection, Browser Protection, and Privacy Protection. Each feature includes additional tools and improved features for various specific uses. These features include Email Protection, Ads Removal, Anti-Tracking, and so on, which all can be accessed from the “Protect” section of the app.

Protect

Software updater

This tool is helpful for automatically updating all the apps on your device. Advanced SystemCare will search and inform you if there are any software updates and you can immediately update them.

Updater

The Software Updater now includes additional application support, expanding its compatibility to include popular software such as Audacity, Google Drive, Signal, Slack, and OBS Studio.

Toolbox

Apart from all the improved or introduced tools in this version, Toolbox is an excellent feature to add. This tool is a collection of useful utilities mainly used by Pro users. You can either use the ones already present or download the ones you would like to try.

If you are interested in using the products under the “Featured Products”, then you should install and then use them. These are other recommended products from IObit. These products include the Drive Booster, Uninstaller, Malware Fighter, etc.

Others

The IObit Advanced SystemCare Pro is your device’s required and essential product. With an AI-powered scanning tool, it scans all the data on your PC intelligently, preventing the system from slowing down. This version can optimize your browser settings, improving the internet surfing experience by 300% and 200% more of your system’s performance by clearing the RAM.

Another add-on feature that can be used is FaceID. It uses a webcam and face recognition technology to analyze whether or not the user is you. There are also features such as Disk Doctor and Disk Cleaner for further detecting and removing any issues or files in your hard drive. Other excellent features include Cloned File Scanner, which searches for duplicate files, and Large File Finder, which finds large files and helps to remove them.

You can also personalize the app the way you like. The background, icon, and text can be changed along with the theme of the app as “Dark” or “Light” mode. This Advanced SystemCare Pro is an excellent app that is extremely useful and responsive with unique features.

Pricing and compatibility

The IObit Advanced SystemCare offers three different plans: a Free version, a $16.77 plan for 1 PC, and a $19.99 plan for 3 PCs.

The Free version, while providing basic functionalities, is quite limited in its offerings. It only offers basic speed-up for internet connection and PC performance. This makes it a rather elementary choice for users who might need more comprehensive features.

The $16.77 plan, designed for a single PC, offers a significant upgrade from the Free version. However, when you consider the price point, it’s not the most value-for-money option.

For just an additional $2.22, the $19.99 plan offers all the features of the $16.77 plan but for 3 PCs. This makes the $16.77 plan seem less appealing, as users can get complete access to the software for multiple devices.

Regarding compatibility, the app is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and Win 7, as well as Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, and Windows 11.

Advanced SystemCare Pro vs Free

The Free version is a great way to use this app, but at the same, it misses on so many features that come with the Pro version. The following are some of the features that are available on the Pro version and not in the Free version:

 • Speed up Internet Connection: Pro offers up to 300% faster internet speed.
 • Speed up PC Performance: Pro boosts PC speed by up to 200%.
 • Registry Deep Clean: Pro provides a deep clean of the registry to prevent PC crashes and errors.
 • Real-time Protection against Virus Infection: Only available in the Pro version.
 • Stop Online Tracking: The pro version offers features to stop online tracking and sweep your online privacy trace.
 • 1-Click Software Update: Pro allows one-click updates for all software.
 • Auto Care for PC: Pro offers automatic care for the PC as scheduled.
 • Auto Update: Pro version automatically updates to the latest version.
 • Premium Technical Support: Only available for Pro users.
